Organiser's Description

Where the land meets the sea, the results have produced one of the most iconic coastal landscapes of Britain – vast cliffs of brilliant white chalk. And Birling Gap is perfectly positioned for runners to explore this dramatic cliff-ridden coastline. These 4 routes lie to the eastern section of the South Downs National Park, but expect a few ups as you negotiate that rolling Down-land!

The wind pushed and the wind pulled. I thoroughly enjoyed this event, but it was certainly like nothing I'd ever trained for. The wind stopped me in my tracks several times - I've heard anecdotes of 50mph gusts. All my practice runs along the route were in sunny conditions! A handful of jelly beans bouncing back from Eastbourne were very welcome, though the angle of the path was a bit of an ankle-breaker. 13.6 miles was quite enough for me given the circumstances, and there was no last minute sprint. A beautiful stretch of coastline and memorable day. Would definitely look at another Endurance Life event such as Dorset or Norfolk. Many thanks to the organisers and sponsors!
