Organiser's Description

Run the Blades is a totally unique event held exclusively within the UK’s largest onshore wind farm, the Whitelee Wind Farm in Eaglesham, East Renfrewshire. Incorporating three distances – a 10k, half marathon and 50k ultramarathon – the event makes trail running accessible to runners of all fitness and experience levels.

All three challenging routes run across mixed moorland, through trees, and pass wind turbines that tower 140m above the trail - a mesmerising distraction from those burning muscles! On a clear day you can see Glasgow and even the coast of Northern Ireland in the distance. We encourage family and friends to come along for a fun filled weekend, with lots of excitement and tasty goods on offer at the vibrant event village. Run the Blades is fully supported by Whitelee Countryside Ranger Service and we value the support of the local Eaglesham community. 19/20 July.

Well organised in great location. First time doing Run The Blades & it didn’t disappoint. Set in Eaglesham moors Whitelees Windfarm is UK’s largest & it is quite an exposed spot & can can a bit windy (great spot for a wind farm). 3 distances to choose 10k, half marathon & 50k. Half marathon for me & the course is mainly compacted corse stone/gravel & on the day due to heavy overnight rain there was one part where we had cross water due to a burn bursting its banks. All part of the fun. 😬the last 5 miles were into quite a string head wind & with about 2 mile to go you are faced with “that hill”. It’s a bit of a leg sapper especially into the wind it was like running in slow motion. But all in all it’s a great course and you get a fantastic medal a decent goody bag at the finish. Be back next year for the Ultra👍🏻
