Can I wear headphones??
In ear or over ear headphones are not permitted under UKA rules and if a runner is seen wearing this type of head phones they will be disqualified :-( However, headphones that don't block your ears, such as Aftershokz, are permitted

What time does the run start??
08:30am

Yikes! Why so early??
When the race first started in 1983 the start time was 2pm. This was the same for our neighbours at Eastleigh 10km. Back then you could hear a pin drop in the High St. Fast forward to 2019 and Sunday is possibly the busiest day of the week in the High St. We are incredibly lucky that Winchester City Council have allowed the event to grow to one of the largest 10km runs in Hampshire. With extra runners comes extra responsibility. Winchester has a rather unique road system which does not work well with road closures. To keep disruption to local residents and business owners to a minimum, an earlier start ensures we keep most people happy. With less traffic on the road at 08:30am it makes it a safer event for all concerned.

Where is the race start??
Winchester Guildhall, 168 High St, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9BA

How do I get there??
Recommended car park is St Peter’s, Gordon Road, SO23 7DD which is roughly 800 metres from the start and 800 metres from the finish.

How much is parking??
Car Parking is free on Sundays (a list of available car parks can be found HERE)

How to I collect my race bib number??
You race number will be posted out to the address you registered with approximately 10 days before the event.

Do I need to register in the morning??
No, providing you have received your number in the post

Can I run with my dog??
Sorry no, Only disability dogs (such as guide dogs are permitted)

Can I run with a buggy??
We are a pro buggy event company however we feel Winchester 10km is not suitable for buggies . Although the race is on closed roads, some of these roads have parked cars and the size of the field could mean that a buggy may obstruct another runner causing potential injury to the runner or the little chap that happens to be in the buggy. Our race is covered by UK Athletics. At present the UKA don't have a detailed buggy policy. We do have two buggy friendly events next year at Romsey 5 Mile Run and Thruxton Race Circuit Run.

Are there toilets at race start??
Yes, the council will open up the public conveninces earlier in the park next to The Broadway and also 100 metres further up the High St opposite Marks and Spencers.

What is the minimum age to enter the event??
The minimum age is 16 years. (age on the day of competition)

Is there a bag drop??
Yes there is a bag drop at the start. There is a £1 charge which 100% of the proceeds go to a local charity running the bag drop.

Flexability. This event handled the situation with the weather very well. The organisers kept us very well informed with any potential course alterations on social media. The on the day organisation again was very good. easily sing posted to the registration area to collect bibs. Where there were plenty of toilets. (always a bonus) The course management went well, even with a slight issue for the first 100 or so runners. But human error with the marshals should not tarnish what was a great course. (I enjoyed the free mileage BTW) Professional and great organisation. Well worth the travel and will be keen to attend again the future.

Overall a good event. For me the race was great but I went the right way. I was sent the correct way, but only just, which meant I caught up with people who had been sent on the extra 700m, which caused confusion. I realise there were last minute course changes but that should mean the organisers take more care in checking marshals etc knew the route. Little disappointed that haven't seen an email from the organisers apologising for the mistake.

Credit where it's due.... For my part I thought this was very well organised but then not being elite, I didn't do the director's cut version. Start was slightly delayed but have had worse, other than that it was nigh on perfect. Fantastic marshalling (Thanks Marshalls), great support from the locals and just the right amount of light, refreshing drizzle. Pleased to have run the entire course, hills and all having a) barely trained and b) got home at 1am the previous night (only myself to blame) So all in all, other than the taxi I tried to hail on 7k refusing to drive me to the finish line, am well happy. Nice bling too. See you next year

Lovely Winchester. My very first organised event... Hubby and I travelled over from the Isle of Wight, so decided to make a weekend of it Beautiful city, fab accommodation. Best of all great run...a little nervous of the unknown, but great balance of hills, flats and some lovely scenery. Looking forward to next year.

My first 10k in 5 years. Glad I chose this event for my first 10k back after a 5 year drought! Hills were challenging but not too extreme & the size of field and fantastic support from locals & marshals alike made this a really friendly, enjoyable event. Well organised except for some parking issues but I will just need to arrive earlier next year!

Fantastic season opener. The course is essentially a series of extended uphill segments followed by short, sharp downhills. No part of it is boring and the field doesn’t get much chance to separate unless you’re right at the front so for the most part you’re never alone, but it’s not crowded apart from at the start and after the finish line (which I believe was due to poorly timed weather causing a flood at the planned finish line). Only hiccup I’m aware of was the lead marshalls not being fully aware of the new course and causing everyone who finished < about 40 mins to do an extra 0.7k. Nobody was very happy about that but since it was an accident and unlikely to happen again I still give the race 4.5
