Sport England have issued the following statement regarding the government announcement on group sizes:
Following changes made by government today in relation to group sizes, we have sought clarity on what this means for sport and physical activity.
While social gatherings above six are banned in England from September 14, organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols can continue as can organised outdoor sports events, like parkrun which is due to return next month.
People can also continue to use leisure facilities, including gyms and pools.
That’s because these sports and activities have stringent plans in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19, and these venues are classed as Covid secure given the measures they have introduced, and because government recognises the importance of sport and physical activity for people’s health and wellbeing.
ADDITIONAL RACE DAY ADVICE:
Arrive wearing a mask and keep this on until you get to the start line where you can dispose of your mask in bins provided. You do not have to wear this during the run.
Please wherever possible, do not bring any baggage to the event. This is to protect both yourself and our staff.
Please respect social distancing before, during and after the completion of your run.
Immediately upon finishing we request that you make your way to the Gardens exit where in Brentford Car Park you will find water, goody bags and medals. It is of critical importance that the area around the finish line is kept clear to ensure everyone’s safety.
We know you may want to congratulate other runners on a great run, but please refrain from doing so in a physical way!
Please remember to carry out a COVID-19 self assessment accessible at: https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19.
The main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are:
- A high temperature - this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- A new, continuous cough - this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste - this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Importantly do not travel to the event if you have been contacted by Track and Trace, are experiencing any of the above symptoms or are awaiting the results of a test.

“We train with headphones so why can’t we race with headphones!”
As the organisers of the Richmond RUNFEST we hear a lot from our runners. The things they like. The things they hate.
And one thing we know they hate is not being able to run with headphones in organised events…
It’s no surprise to us… listening to music when you run is a magnificent, metronome based motivator that really moves you.
Whether its rock, pop, classical, garage, grime, jazz or Peruvian nose flutes, your music can take your running to a new level.
And, it’s not just us saying that… there’s plenty of science out there that backs it up and proves that music can help you run faster and run better.
So, this news should come as music to the ears of runners everywhere.
We’re going to BEAT THE BAN!
By launching a new run where headphones aren’t just allowed, they’re major feature to the event!
Our AIR runners will be encouraged to listen to their own performance enhancing music as they run past the Royal Deers and take in the amazing views over London Town!
All UK race packs will be posted via 2nd class post two weeks before the race. You should expect to receive this in the final week [25th-29th May].
If you are travelling to the race from outside the UK you are an International runner and will receive collection details closer to the race.
First-hand event reviews from people who’ve been there, done that and got the breathable T-shirt, really help everyone choose their next event.
Write a review and you’ll be entered into a monthly draw to win a pair of running shoes of your choice from Pro:Direct Running.
