Bédoin, France
Bédoin, FranceThu 18th June 2020
Organiser's Description
Our packages include return airport transfers, half board accommodation, and rides each day. Three night package in June, taking on the Cinglés du Ventoux challenge - all 3 sides in one day.
Riding in Provence is as good as it gets; the roads seem designed by cyclists, taking you from pretty village to pretty village through beautiful rolling countryside dotted with vineyards, and stunning views around every corner.
The focus of this short break is Mt Ventoux, which rightly deserves its place on the bucket list. Taking on all 3 sides in one day is the big challenge and our on the road support will give you the best chance to become a member of the legendary Club du Cinglés du Ventoux - just make sure you have remembered to stamp your dossard in each of the 3 towns.
Itinerary
Day One - Thursday
Bedoin
Arrive in Marseille by 4.15pm. Our host will meet you at the airport and the transfer leaves at 4.45pm for arrival at our hotel for around 6pm. We set up bikes that evening (and if time can go for a quick spin) before our welcome dinner at 7.30pm.
Day Two - Friday
Gorges de la Nesque
After breakfast at 7.30am, we roll out for 8.30am for the 102km ride around the base of Mont Ventoux. The route is rolling throughout. We have our local guide leading the ride and a support vehicle behind with nutrition, spare parts and any extra clothing you need. We will stop for coffee and cake.
Our average speed will be a leisurely 25km/h as we all aim to ride together on the flat, regrouping on the summits of climbs. We aim to get back to Bedoin by 1pm.
In the evening, over dinner we run through the timings and details for tomorrow.
Day Three - Saturday
Mont Ventoux
We have an early breakfast at the hotel and then roll out between 6am and 7am. This day is all about Ventoux. Three ways. The first climb is from Bedoin, then Malaucene and finally Sault. Our support vehicle will be at various points with more drink, food and places to shed or collect layers. You will mostly be climbing on your own, or in small groups, and will get food either in Malaucene ad / or Chalet Renard after the second summit.
We are normally back at the hotel for 5pm / 6pm and start the celebrating straight away. Dinner is at 7,30pm. Ride Distance 137km.
Day Four - Sunday
Bedoin
Departure day. Morning at leisure, we have a nice coffee ride route if you want one last spin before the transfer leaves at 12.15pm for a 2pm arrival at Marseille.
",The base of the Ventoux is many people's highlight as we go through the Gorges de la Nesque, the more rugged side of the mountain.
The Climbs
Ventoux (Bedoin)
The most famous side up the Ventoux. This is the first side you ride if you are completing Les Cingles. Ride Distance 20.9km; Elevation Gain 8%.
Ventoux (Malaucene)
The back way up the Ventoux, but no less hard than the Bedoin side. This is ride two of Les Cingles. The gradients are less regular this way up, with some flats followed by long stretches of 10% ramps. Ride Distance 20.5km; Elevation Gain 8%.
Ventoux (Sault)
The final climb of Les Cingles is from Sault. This way up climbs gently all the way to Chalet Reynard, then we are into the famous lunar landscape and steep gradients. Ride Distance 24.2km; Elevation Gain 5%.
