Ditton Dash 10k

Giggs Hill Green, Thames Ditton, Surrey

Gigg's Hill Green, Thames Ditton, UK

Sun 23rd June 2019

Starting at 08:00

Organiser's Description

This race is based alongside the Harry Hawkes 10 mile, sharing the same start line but an earlier start time. Based at Giggs Hill Green, Thames Ditton, the run goes around the Green and off towards Esher before branching along a trail path into Ditton Woods, out into Thames Ditton, through the woods for a second lap and on to a finish close to Thames Ditton Cricket Club.

The whole course is pancake flat and we expect to see some fast times. It will however also suit slower runners or those stepping up from 5k running to the 10k mark.

Parking

Car Park 1. CEB, 1 Atwell Place, Thames Ditton, KT7 0NE. Located just off the Portsmouth Road and is approx. 2 min walk form the race start. There are about 200 spaces available on a first come serve basis. You need to park before 08:30 if you would like to use this car park, after this point runners will be crossing the entrance. There will also be a short hold on entry between 08:00 – 08:10 for the start of the Ditton Dash 10K.

Car Park 2. Thames Ditton Library, Mercer Cl, Thames Ditton, KT7 0BS . There are 50 spaces and it is used very little on a Sunday, with no charges applying.

Car Park 3. Ashley Road, Thames Ditton, KT7 0NH. There are spaces for 66 cars and it is virtually unused on a Sunday morning. Again there are no charges on a Sunday. It is about a third of a mile to walk back to the start.

Car Park 4. Hampton Court Station, Hampton Ct Way, Molesey, KT8 9AE. This is a large car park with plenty of spaces and costs just £2 for all day Sunday. It’s about 1.4 miles from the start, so allow 25 minutes to walk or 15 minutes to jog. A nice pre-race warm up!

Course Details

The course has been accurately measured and has a certificate of course accuracy. It is a flat, mixed terrain course over public roads and woodland paths.

No dogs, accompanying vehicles or cycles are allowed on the course (with the exception of the organisers lead and tail bikes). We regret the course is not suitable for wheelchairs, prams or pushchairs. The course will be marked at each mile.

Event details

The minimum age for entry is 15 on race day.

A maximum of 300 runners will be allowed on the day. We will accept entries on the day, unless the maximum entry figure is reached in advance and entries are closed

Race Numbers: We are not sending numbers out in the post in advance. You are able to collect your number in advance of the race (advance collection info will be confirmed in due course), or from race registration on the day. If you are picking up your number on the day please arrive at least 1 hour early to allow time for this. Only the person who has entered the race should collect the race number.

It is permitted to transfer race numbers to another person, but this should only be done in advance through the Race registration service operated by Sport Systems. This is a condition for entering the race and is extremely important especially in the event of illness or an accident during the event. It may also affect the results, and may mean someone getting a prize to which they aren’t entitled.

Pin your race number on the FRONT of your running vest or ‘T’ shirt, where it is most visible for race officials. Runners who do not have a properly displayed number or are identified as running under the wrong name will be liable to disqualification.
Please complete the form on the back of your number with your name, contact details and any medical condition. This will help in the event of an accident or illness.

Race discipline & rules: The route runs on public roads. Keep to the left of the road, pavement or path during the race. Take care when overtaking and make way for faster runners. If you need to stop or walk for any reason, please move to the side of the course, so as not to impede other runners. Instructions issued by the Race Marshals, who will be wearing fluorescent yellow bibs, MUST be obeyed. They will advise you of any hazards.
In line with UK Athletics rules the organisers prohibit the use of headphones during the race, as these may prevent you from hearing instructions from Marshals. (Please note the UKA do allow bone conducting headphones).
Any runner not complying with these rules is liable to disqualification. The Race Referee’s decision is final at all times. This advice is for your own safety and that of other road users. Without your co-operation it is not possible to hold a race on public roads.

The race will be held under a UK Athletics license.

Start: All competitors should try to arrive at least one hour before the start to allow time to collect your race number and timing chip from Race HQ. You will also need time for warming up and lining up. The Start is on Giggs Hill Green. The race will start promptly at 8.00 am. Listen for the race marshals instructions to guide you to the start at the appropriate time.
Please be realistic about your expected performance, line up according to how fast you plan to run. Slower runners should move to the back of the group. The race cut off time will be 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Please pay attention to the pre-race instructions. These are for the benefit of all runners, and will help guide you through the course and keep you safe. This advice is for your own safety and that of other road users.
You must be certain to run over the matting at the start line to ensure that your chip is registered.

Finish: The finish is on Giggs Hill Green, where the race started. The timing chip on your shoe will record your race time as you cross the line. Make certain that you run over the matting in the finish funnel, this will ensure that your chip is registered. Once you have crossed the finish line, don’t stop, keep moving to the end of the funnel.
On completion of the race, runners will be presented with their finishers medal, fruit and water.
