All is not what it seems. We decided to enter this race as a family as it looked fun. Fancy dress was encouraged with a prize for the best pizza related and there was going to be a big after party. I decided to go in fancy dress and spent a number of days in turning a push bike into a delivery scooter. We arrived at a field full of cow pat in Exeter after travelling down from Wiltshire. There was a tent, 2 portaloos for all the runners to use and a DJ on a stage. Only me and one other person was in pizza related fancy dress and to be honest I felt a bit silly. There were a couple of children in shop purchased star wars outfits. The race was delayed by 20 minutes due to the queue for the toilets. We chose the 10km option and my son did the family mile. On the first lap we encountered cows wondering around, cattle grids not covered, a severe lack of marshals and worse of all no medical cover. When we approached the end of the first lap I noticed that there was no water stop. I ventured on pushing my bike for 10km. When me and my wife arrived at the finish line we were surprised to see that people were leaving in their droves and there was no after party as stated. My son then informed me that the starwars kids had won the best pizza themed fancy dress which was a chocolate bar and a water bottle. He was upset as he thought that I had worked hard. I told him not to worry as the prizes were not that great. A couple of weeks later I went on their Facebook page to see the photos for that day. A message was left from a person who won the 5km asking where his prize was. I messaged him and expressed my concerns. He was also disappointed with the event. The event was not cheap. We paid over £70 plus fuel to attend for something that was not even timed. In summary the event was unsafe, poorly organised and falsely advertised. Stay clear.
We’re so sorry you had a less than satisfactory experience. We love running ourselves and always strive to deliver events that we’d enjoy participating in. Thank you for your feedback too, we will be taking it on board, discussing together prior to this years events & striving to improve in all possible areas based on your valuable feedback. We’re also sorry that we weren’t hosting an event closer to you in Wiltshire, maybe we’ll be closer in the future if the opportunity arises. We were disappointed ourselves to find that the park had allowed cattle access to our pre arranged race village area, there were some patches of cow pat in the area and we’ll be ensuring this doesn’t happen again in any race village area in any city. Thanks for your note on the toilets, we certainly were surprised by the marked rise in interest in our portaloos compared to other cities, but felt it only right to delay the start until everyone was ready to participate. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. We did have the suggested number of portaloos based on the number of people in attendance, and every other city seemed fine, but we will be taking note of this and adding more portaloos where necessary. Thank you for your fancy dress efforts too, we try to encourage as many as possible to dress up and make it a fun family day, but of course we can’t make people and some cities have a higher fancy dress rate than others. Exeter was less fancy dress attended than others for sure. We certainly commend your efforts and are sorry that yo weren’t chosen for the fancy dress prize. We’re also sorry that not many people stuck around for the race DJ set, some cities are again more interested in this than others but we can’t force people to stick around. We can also assure you that the prizes went to the correct individuals at every event last year. Exeter’s event was particularly memorable in that regard, as some individuals decided to head off prior to the award giving. There was medical cover in Exeter, but we’ll make a point of having it better signed next time around. We’ll also be making some changes to increase visibility of all prizes prior to the race. best regards Pizza Run
