Mickleham 2 hour MTBO event

Organiser's Description
The nature of Adventure Racing is that anyone of any age and fitness can take part, from the very beginner to the ultra racer. This is a 2 hour off road MTB only event, along challenging tracks and trails. Using a 1:25k waterproof map, plan your route and navigate to as many checkpoints as possible within the time. Minimum age to take part is 8 accompanied or 16 unaccompanied.
You decide how many CPs you want to visit and in what order. Distance covered depends on how many checkpoints are visited, and can be anything from 20km to around 40+km, and depends on your level of fitness, as well as your MTB and map reading skills.
Registration opens at 8.00am to give competitors time to collect their maps and to plan their strategy and routes.

How To Get There
Road: The A24 dual-carriageway bypasses Mickleham. Take the B2209 (the Old London Road) from the A24 at the Burford Bridge roundabout. Use Satnav RH5 6EE.
Railway: The Box Hill and Westhumble station is located across the A24, less than 2 miles from the venue, and provides a regular a link to London and Horsham.
Buses: The 465 bus route runs every hour or half-hour (except nights) between Kingston upon Thames and Dorking, via Mickleham village.
Event Details
Navigate the trails and bridleways on your mountain bike collecting as many checkpoints as you can in 2 hours. Minimum age to take part in an MTBO event is 8 accompanied or 16 unaccompanied.
Registration opens at 08:30am, and the event will start from 10:00am at 30s intervals.
Visit the registration desk to collect your Race Pack which includes your marked map, race number and dibber.
The event is 2 hours long, with individual starts every 30 seconds from between 10:00am and 10:15am.
Using the map provided, navigate to as many checkpoints as possible, within the 2 hour limit.
There will be anything between 15 – 30 checkpoints marked on the waterproof map.
Each checkpoint is worth 10 points.
Competitors will incur a penalty of 1 point for every 30 seconds they are late back.
After the event, download your dibber in the event HQ, where you will receive your results instantly before enjoying a cup of tea/coffee and a cake.

20 minutes before the mass start at 10am there will be a briefing in the hall. If you choose the option to start earlier, the points to know are listed below.
A welcome to the venue…
Any last minute pointers about the CPs will be shared. This info will be passed on to the Transition Crew.
We have Trail Race, Sprint and MTBO events 2 hours each, Experience 4 hours and Mini Trail 1h.
Experience 4 hour limit, can start from 08:30am up until the mass start at 10am. A choice of Run or Bike first. Minimum of one checkpoint must be visited on each discipline. Those starting at 10am must run first.
Sprint 2 hour limit, mass start on foot at 10:00am. Minimum of one checkpoint must be visited on each discipline.
Trail 2 hour limit, mass start on foot at 10:00am. Minimum of one checkpoint must be visited.
Mini Trail (New Dec 18) 1 hour limit, can start from 09:15am up until the mass start at 10am.
MTBO 2 hour limit, started at 30s intervals after the mass start. Minimum of one checkpoint must be visited.
All Checkpoints are worth 10 points.
Penalties – 1 point per 30s late.
Those starting early will need to dib the Start Box to Start your time.
You must dib in and out of Transition and when you finish. The transition is included in your time.
Stay on public rights of way, close gates, and no littering.
No bikes allowed on footpaths, not even pushed.
Maps issued are waterproof.
Lost Dibbers will be charged £40.
Carry a mobile phone – Emergency contact number is on the map.
Broken or missing Checkpoint boxes – Each box has a 3 letter word to confirm your visit, could also take a photo on your phone.
Be careful at any junctions, busy roads, railway crossings. Cycle on the left when on the roads.
How to dib – At a checkpoint there will be a red electronic box to dib into, marked up with red and white tape
Don’t Punch MTB Controls on the Trail or Trail Controls on MTB – This will not work!
Bike number must be on your seat post.
Only one transition allowed, min 1cp on each discipline.
Water available at Transition
Checkpoints on each discipline can be visited in any order.
Return to transition any time and having visited a minimum of one Checkpoint.
When finished, rack your bike in Transition and go to HQ to download and return your dibber.
Be nice to the members of the public. Be aware of horse riders and DO NOT race past.
Finish is in same place as the start. Locate the finish before you start.
Prizes are given to the first place in each category and Event once all have returned.
Cakes and Soup (seasonal), Tea and Coffee available inside afterwards
No Muddy Shoes inside the building afterwards
Tap depending, there may be a Powerhose to clean your bike.
Provisional Results will go up on line straight after the event, latest by the evening

Event rules
Kit: For ALL events it is recommended that you race with:
- Compass
- Small first aid kit
- Phone or money
- Waterproof jacket if the weather demands it
- Drink and food/gel
- Your own certified bike helmet to be worn on the bike stage (mandatory)
- Map board or other means to carry and view your map on the bike stage (available to buy for £9.00 at registration
Rules: These rules are important to maintain a safe event for all and to ensure we are welcome back again in the future.
- You may run on marked public footpaths, bridleways and permissible tracks – the green and black dashed lines
- You may only cycle on bridleways, rights of way, roads, (not footpaths)
- Close all gates behind you even if you can see another competitor approaching
Apply the Countryside Code at all times:
- Consider the local community and other people enjoying the outdoors
- Leave no trace of your visit, and take your litter home
- Keep dogs under effective control
Additional rules for the Tri-Adventure Short, Long, MTBO, Challenge and Night & Day:
- A certified bike helmet must be worn on the bike stage
- You must be within 10m of your bike at all times
- In transition, bikes must be dismounted as instructed
Penalties
- 1 point for every 30 seconds for being late back. Therefore, for every 5 minutes you are late back you lose a checkpoint.
The winner is the competitor with the largest number of points, if there is a tie, the winner is the competitor who gained the largest number of points in the quickest time.
