Sun 3rd October 2021

Starting at 09:30

Organiser's Description

Run in the footsteps of legends around the iconic sights of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park! Along a flat, smooth course, you'll be inspired by the scenic waterways, green spaces and sporting venues including the London Stadium, the London Aquatics Centre, the Copper Box Arena, Lee Valley VeloPark and Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Following the relaxation of COVID restrictions, events have returned to the south park with the event hub at The Last Drop Cafe. Should essential works make it necessary for the event to be moved to the north park, the event hub will be located at The Timber Lodge, 1A Honour Lea Avenue, LONDON, E20 1DY. Participants are reminded to always check any pre-race communication as the location can change at late notice.

Our 10K course has been completed more than 17,000 times since we established this monthly event in 2014 - by first-timers, beginners, long-time runners and elite 10,000m athletes. It's here for everyone - whether you're chasing a 10K personal best or simply aiming to complete the course - and our brilliant race day atmosphere, souvenir medals and post-race refreshments will make it a race to remember.

Usually with around 500 runners per race, you'll find you've all the space you need and plenty of other runners at your pace to get a great race experience. We were the first to begin monthly 10K races around the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and we're proud to continue to offer the best value, chip-timed races on this classic course.

The 22 August 10K & 5K events are part of the London Parks Series. Whilst we welcome participants who only wish to register for a single event, discounted entry is available when entering all 3 events in the series (prior to the first event only).

Entry on the Day will not be available at these events.

These events will be Licensed with UK Athletics (UKA) and the results published by Run Britain shortly after each event.

COVID-19 Mitigation

These measures, together with other Covid-related requirements at our events, may still be in place and/or be subject to revision in response to any change in the current public health guidance issued by the government or regulatory bodies.

NHS Test and Trace may still be in operation at our events. Participants may be required to complete a health declaration prior to arrival and to check-in where possible using the NHS COVID-19 app (available to download in advance for iOS or Android). Any information obtained will be held for 21 days after an event only and will not be used for any other purpose. Participants may not be permitted on site if they fail to follow this process, the full details of which will be communicated prior to each event.

One-way navigation and social distancing signage may be present on site to facilitate adherence to official guidance. Queue markers should be observed at all times and sanitisation stations used as frequently as necessary.

Unless there have been any changes following communication of the final pre-event information, there may be no event briefing on the day. Participants should read the communication thoroughly to familiarise themselves with the event format.

Participants may start individually (or in groups if not required to socially distance) at 5-10 second intervals to maintain social distancing, with a recommended 15-minute arrival window allocated and communicated prior to the event. Whilst running, participants should only overtake when there is enough room (at least 1m) to do so.

Once finished, participants should continue moving and follow signage and marshal directions to keep the area clear for other finishers. Any post-event rewards (medal, water etc.) may be self-service (following hand-sanitisation) to ensure there is no contact amongst staff and participants.

Participants are asked to review the UKA Participant Code of Conduct - and spectators the UKA Spectator Code of Conduct - prior to their arrival.

Event Details

The Route is generally flat, on tarmac paths and consists of 3-laps of the south park (depending on the specific route used, 3 or 4-laps may be used in the north park, but the route is more undulating).

Bib Numbers will only be available for collection at each event, participants should not expect to receive anything by mail.

To be fastened to the front of your top using safety pins provided, your number should remain visible at all times. A timing chip is attached to the back of the bib and should not be removed.

Results will be uploaded live to our website (internet connection permitting) and communicated to all pre-registered participants within 24 hours of each event.

All finishers will receive a Medal on completing their event and, subject to a competitive field of participants, Prizes will be awarded to the top three places overall - and the top place in each of the veteran categories (V40/V50/V60/V70) - for both females and males. Winners will be notified by email by the end of the following week.

Series Entry/Qualification

In order to satisfy eligibility requirements for the London Parks Series Grand Prix, participants must finish all 3 of the available 10K or 5K series races, each of which will then be used to calculate final positions (determined with respect to the highest cumulative score).

Cumulative scores will be calculated by automatically matching a participant’s name, gender, and date of birth, and allocating points with respect to their final position at each event. It is the responsibility of each participant to ensure the details they provide during registration are consistent for all events throughout the series, and to notify our event timing partner as soon as possible where a discrepancy is identified.

Participants will be allocated 50pts for 1st, 49pts for 2nd, …, 2pts for 49th and 1pt for 50th+ for each individual event.

Categories will be determined using a participant's age on the 31st December of the calendar year in which the first event of the series takes place.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three places overall, and the top place in each of the veteran categories (V40/V50/V60/V70) for both females and males. Winners will be notified via email within two weeks of the final event where a presentation is not possible on the day, and once results are considered final.

In the event of a tie-break, the higher position will be awarded to the participant that has attended more events, then by age category (oldest first).

Marshals will be present on the course throughout each event.

Course Markings, including arrows, tape and distance markers, will be visible on the course where necessary.

Pacers will not be offered at these events.

Facilities

Photography will be provided at these events, a link to which will be available on our website and communicated to all pre-registered participants within 24 hours of each event.

Suitable Medical Cover is provided at our events in case of a medical emergency. Participants must provide, during registration, details of any pre-existing medical conditions, disabilities, medication or allergies that may be relevant in the administration of any medical assistance. Participants should also provide the same information on the reverse of their bib number (where applicable) prior to starting their event, marking a large, red X (or other contrasting colour, using the pens provided at registration) to the front of their number to alert the medical provider to any such information.

Bag Drop will be available at these events. Whilst we recommend bringing as little as possible, participants can leave essential belongings with us while they run using the tear-off baggage strip on their bib. They can then present their number after the event to retrieve their item(s).

Water Stations will be available on these routes at each lap point.

Toilets and sanitisation stations will be available around the start & finish area/lap point for use throughout each event by both participants and spectators.

Refreshments are expected be available throughout each event from the park facilities.

There are no dedicated Changing Rooms/Showers at these events.

Lost Property from an event will be kept for one month. If unclaimed, or ownership cannot be determined, lost property items will be donated to charity.

As part of our ongoing COVID response, to ensure the opportunities for social distancing are maximised, Spectators are strongly discouraged at these events.

Participants must not be accompanied by a personally owned or controlled Dog during an event. Entries may be accepted from participants with medical assistance dogs, subject to them being correctly registered and identifiable as such, and subject to prior approval by the Event Director.

We reserve the right to disqualify participants who cannot hear instructions as a result of their use.

Since these events take place at a venue open to the public, participants should remain vigilant of each other, spectators, marshals, cyclists, dogs and other users of public footpaths and rights of way at all times.

With respect to a Time-Limit for these events, in order that we adhere to the restrictions imposed by the venue hire agreement, it may be necessary for us to begin deconstruction of the course and/or start/finish area at approximately 13:00 to facilitate our departure from the premises by the agreed time. Well organised in trying conditions. Great effort given that rapidly rising water levels flooded part of the course on the morning of the race. Organisers hastily re-routed the course, but the event went well in spite of the rain! Very friendly marshals, just a shame it was under COVID-19 rules, and so we has to disperse quickly, but great to be back racing. Thanks everyone!
