ROC24 [Suffolk]

Christchurch Park, Ipswich, Suffolk

IP4 2BX, UK

Sat 30th May 2020

Starting at 12:00

Organiser's Description

ROC24 is a unique run-jog-walk challenge for all abilities, where solo entries and relay teams of up to 8 members complete as many laps of a 5k course as possible in a 24 hour period. There will also be a Fun-Run for the whole family + medals for all participants and trophies for podium places too (including club and business challenge categories).

This is the perfect Ultra entry event for solo's wanting to test themselves on a stunning looped course, where you will get all the support you need and manageable breaks should you need them! Participants do not have to be on the course for the full 24-hours, and team members only need to complete a minimum of 1 lap.

ROC24 is taking place over the weekend of 30/31 May at Christchurch Park, Ipswich, Suffolk. Overnight camping with shower facilities is included in the entry fee and the race village will offer catering and entertainment. The event is fundraising for charitable partners Age UK Suffolk.

A strong solo field is anticipated, with GB Athlete and 3-time Brighton Marathon winner (and reigning champion) Helen Davies leading the field off.

Location

Christchurch Park, Bolton Lane, Ipswich, Suffolk IP4 2BX

Christchurch Park is a Green Flag awarded park in the centre of Ipswich and will be home to ROC24 for the weekend of 30/31 May 2020.

How To Get There

The Park is located just over a mile North of Ipswich and can be accessed from several points off the A14 (approx 2.5 miles)

Event Details

Participants aged 18+ on 30 May 2020 can enter the main event

The Family Fun Run (approx 1 mile) will start at 5pm. Children under 12 on 30 May 2020 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Registration and access to the camping zone (which will be in close proximity to the Race Village and Car Park) will be available from early Saturday morning (times TBC).

Participants DO NOT have to run for the whole 24 hours, but can decide how long (time) or how far (distance) they run, jog or walk. For example, one team member can choose to complete a single lap while teammates complete multiple laps (continuously or spread out across the 24 hours period).

This will be a family friendly event with children's play area and Christchurch Mansion in close proximity to the Race Village. Clubs and teams are encouraged to erect gazebos beside the course to support all participants.

In addition to the site's existing cafe and ice-cream hut, the Race Village will include a host of hot food and drink suppliers, including vegan options and a retail zone where well known running brands will be based.

Water stations will be set-up along the course for refilling of receptacles.

Participant shower and toilet facilities will be available on-site in addition to the Park's existing public toilets.

There will be entertainment throughout the weekend, with a DJ booth and live music, including a special ‘Elvis Singathon’ gig with ‘Harry Isaac Presley’ and his HIP band at 6pm on the Saturday. Harry will be attempting a 24-hour ‘Elvis Singathon’ challenge to help fundraise for ROC24’s partner charity Age UK Suffolk, and needs all the support you can give.

Camping & Motorhomes

Camping on the Saturday night is included in the entry fee. Tents will be pitched in a secure camping zone with wristband only access.

Additional camping security measures include accredited security patrols throughout the event and an overnight park gate management.

There will be a designated motorhome zone with a limited number of spaces available at £10 per vehicle, which includes the weekend car parking charge. Motorhome spaces can only be obtained by ROC24 entrants. All motor homes must be pre-registered by 31st April 2020. Email [email protected] to register and make payment.

Safety in the Park

Event organisers Run Or Cycle Events and partners Ipswich Borough Council and Age UK Suffolk are committed to making ROC24 a safe and enjoyable experience.

Measures we are putting in place to achieve this include:

  • First Aid services on-site throughout the event.
  • Well marshalled course with security accredited patrols carried out with the support of Police Cadets.
  • A secure camping zone operated with wristband only access.
  • Park gates locked from dusk till dawn, with access to event participants and organisers only via a single security managed emergency access gate.
Course Details

The single-loop course (approx 5km) will cover as much of the Park's stunning landscape as possible, heading southwards past the Victorian pond and Christchurch Mansion (avoiding the big hill incline), and meander back to the start line through the wilderness area, landscaped gardens, camping zone and race village.

Parking

Event car parking is available on-site at £5 per car for the weekend. There will also be a drop-off zone in operation. All proceeds from car parking will help fund the vital work of local charity Age UK Suffolk.
