Rocky Horror Swim Run
Thurlestone, DevonThurlestone Sands, South Milton, Kingsbridge, UK
Sat 4th September 2021
Starting at 08:30
Covid Safety measures
These will comply with the Governing Body Guidelines the TRA, under the auspices of England Athletics and the ARC.
- Hand sanitiser will be placed outside all toilets, as well as on a table. Paper toilet seat covers, one per person, will be used in toilets and portable loos
- Signs reminding of ‘social distancing’ will be placed around the venue.
- Seated staff will wear masks.
- We WILL NOT be holding a race briefing. Instead runners will receive an electronic briefing with a video and description of the route.
- For the start, we will be using a rolling start wave window split in to two one hour windows. This will be done alphabetically.
- This event will be signed and marshalled.
- Race chips/numbers will either sent out in the post, or ‘dipped’ in an antiseptic ‘bath’ and collected at registration.
- There will be no prize giving ceremony.
- Water and finisher’s medals will be located remote from the Finish to discourage social gathering (our biggest concern).
- Spectators will not be encouraged.
- All marshals will be given bin bags and disposable gloves. Anyone caught littering will be disqualified.
We will be signing runners back in back in when they finish their run behind the Plume of Feathers Pub . All runners will be issued with an NFC chip which will be used to sign in at the finish. They will swipe themselves in at the end and we will have a manual paperback system. We will be accounting for all of our runners with this new back-up policy. This applies to ALL runners. We will also have sweepers out on the course for all three distances.
It includes a LONG 18 mile swimrun with 4 swim legs and 4 run legs, a SHORT 8.5 mile swimrun with 3 swim legs and 3 run legs, as well as a Rock Hard sea swim at South Milton.
All participants will collect their race packs on Saturday from 1pm onwards.
All swimruns follow the South West Coast Path from Bantham to South Milton Sands, where the second swim leg takes place through the iconic Thurlestone Rock. The route then continues to Outer Hope, where swimrunners swim to Inner Hope (a 400m swim) then run back to South Milton Sands. The short swimrun ends here, while the LONG, continues from the third swim section, with a run to North Sands beach in Salcombe and a swim back to South Sands. The final run section then follows the coastpath back to South Milton Sands, via a short inland section to East Soar.
Team Relay options will be available shortly.
Branded swim cap
A bespoke swim run medal
Water/food throughout the course
All participants will collect their race packs either on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
Registration and the prize ceremony take place at South Milton Sands.
Both Long and Short events start with a swim at high tide at South Milton Sands. Swimmers will start right on peak high tide and so swim with the flow.
Both Swim Runs follow the South West coastpath from South Milton Sands, to Outer Hope, where the second swim leg takes place. Here swimrunners swim to Inner Hope (a 750m swim) then run back to South Milton Sands. Swimrunners continue on to Salcombe’s North Sands for the third swim leg before running back along the coast path and Long swimrunners take their final swim from Inner Hope to Outer Hope (opposite direction). Both short and Long swim runs end at South Milton Sands, via a short inland section to East Soar.
Rocky Horror LONG 20 miles: 4 swim legs and 4 run legs, (swim 1.7 miles/run 18.3 miles)
Rocky Horror SHORT 8.5 miles: 3 swim legs and 3 run legs (swim 1.4 miles/run 7.1 miles)
Rocky Ending Sprint: 3.5 miles: 2 swim legs and 2 run legs (swim 1 mile/run 2.5 miles)
Go Tri: 0.5 mile swim at South Milton Sands, followed by a 3k run to Hope Cove and back.
