Exercise & Races COVID 19 - Latest
The Romsey 5 Mile Run is a lovely run set within the grounds of The Broadlands Estate in Romsey, Hampshire. The course is a mainly tarmac 3 laps of the estate, making it one of the flattest 5 mile races in the county, and as such attracts athletes from further afield looking for a PB time. The event is also perfect for first timers just starting out.
Broadlands Estate, Bypass Road, Romsey, Hampshire, SO51 9ZD
The Broadlands Estate is ideally positioned within easy access of the M27 motorway and Southampton Railway Station. Southampton is a main line station, with cross country services.
We are making changes to The Romsey 5 so we can still go ahead in this COVID-19 world!
Working closely with Broadlands we now have the venue all day which means we can still run the event within Government guidelines. The run will work as a series of waves throughout the day. When you enter you will be asked to submit your predicted finish time and from there we will allocate your wave. Each wave will be a rolling start where small groups will be let off at intervals all maintaining the social distancing rules. Numbers will be heavily restricted and no spectators will be allowed into the venue.
Other measures that will be put in place are as follows:
Posting of race numbers and chips - you need to enter 3 weeks before the event date so we can post your race pack to you. There will be an option to collect your number in the week leading up to the event from our office in Netley. This will reduce the number of people queuing at registration.
COVID Health Screening - all competitors will have to complete a health screening questionnaire 7 days before the event date and anyone who has to self isolate or has symptoms will not be able to take part. This information is also stored for track and trace purposes. (Marshals and crew will go through the same process)
Face Coverings - all persons at the venue will be asked to wear a face covering when not racing.
No bag drop or Key drop - this removes the risk of touch transmission.
No Water stop - following the UKA guidelines water will only be available at the end of the race.
Self service medals and t-shirts - medals and tees will be laid out on tables for you to collect.
Hand Sanitising - there will be hand sanitiser available around the event village and before and after you enter the toilets.
The course has been measured again and UKA licence has been applied for.
We have delivered a running event since the easing of lock down and it was a great experience. The runners actually enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the start!
As numbers are restricted we do encourage you to enter soon! Don't forget that if for some reason you can't make it on race day you can transfer your place to another person via the my.challenging.events system. Look forward to seeing you on the start line!
** Note the new date, If you have previously entered we have automatically moved you to the new date, there is no need to do anything,
If you are unable to attend the new date you have three options:
- You are able to transfer your place to another person via my.challenging.events
- If we sell out and operate a waiting list you are able to release your place to the waiting list.
- Final option is to run the event virtually and we will post your t-shirt and medal to you
