Sunset Ultra

Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

Britannia Pier & Theatre (Great Yarmouth), Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, UK

Sat 6th June 2020

Organiser's Description

The Norfolk Coast Path runs for 83 miles from Hunstanton to Hopton-on-Sea, travelling through the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Following the success of our winter Sunrise Ultramarathons along this course, we have decided to put on the summer equivalent and the Sunset Ultras were born!

Unlike their winter cousins which run during the hours of darkness, all Sunset events start during daylight hours, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful Norfolk coastline in all its glory. As the sun rises in the east, you will be set off from the start in Great Yarmouth. How far can you get before the sun sets in the west at 21:39, some 17 hours and 8 minutes later? For the speedier runners amongst you, can you reach the finish 83 miles away on the beach at Snettisham?

Support is provided along the route but is kept to a minimum, to minimise the environmental impact of the race and to add to the running adventure. For this reason, runners own crew will be banned from the course between the hours of 22:00 and 07:00. Pacers are also not allowed in any of our events.

A full indoor checkpoint is provided at roughly halfway, in Cley-next-the-sea. Here you will have access to a drop bag and also be provided with warm food and drink. A further six additional mobile checkpoints will also be provided along the route but these will be limited to cold water and snacks, so pack accordingly.

In 2020, 4 UTMB points await successful finishers.
