Organiser's Description

The Lydd 20 is an ideal race for all those training for London, Brighton or other Spring marathons. The course follows the same fast and flat route as the popular Lydd Half Marathon, using the wide pancake-flat lanes surrounding the Marsh town of Lydd. PBs are highly likely. Runners of all standards welcome.

The Race HQ is located around half a mile from the town centre of Lydd. The Race Headquarters are located at the Banks Sports Club in Dennes Lane – just off the High Street.

From the M20
Exit at Junction 10, Ashford and take the A2070 to Brenzett. Turn Left onto the A259 towards New Romney and then turn right on to the B2075. This will take you to the centre of Lydd, from where you will find Dennes Lane, just off the High Street.

From Folkestone
Take the A259 through New Romney, turn Left onto the B2075. This will take you to the centre of Lydd.

From Hastings and Rye
Take the A259 through Rye and take the first turn right towards Camber. Follow this road through Camber for around 4 miles. When you reach the military barracks at Lydd, turn left and this will take you to the centre of Lydd.

The closest railway station is Ashford International, which is around 15 miles away. You will then need to get a taxi or cycle to the event.

Course Details

The Course
The race will start on the main road adjacent to the Banks Sports Club in Dennes Lane, which is found just off the High Street. Participants will head out to the north of the town and cover a rural out and back route through the quiet lanes surrounding the town before making their way back to Lydd and the finish at the Sports Club. The route is pancake flat and will be officially measured and carries a certificate of course accuracy.

The route will be clearly marked using large route arrows, as well as being marshalled throughout. Please note that the roads will only be closed for the start of the race and although they are quiet lanes there is a chance you may meet a vehicle on the route.

A gem of a race.. First time for me doing this race, which makes a great pre Brighton/London train ing run, half marathon or just 20 mile race. I think the medal is one of the smartest I've ever received!!. The price was great value, many great friendly Marshalls, easy parking and everything you need for a good event. The weather was terrible trees down over the course, but teams of people out there trying to clear them, arranging ways around them. My only negative, which is nothing to do with the organisers, was seeing runners who I'd say we're in training for a Marathon, leaving litter, old gel packs, cups etc. Having run many races we should only leave footprints! I get the 20 mile idea, but could a full marathon be a future option as well....?
