Organiser's Description

Our Gravel series is designed for ALL riders to come and give some off road riding a go. Whether you’ve done it plenty of times before, or this is your very first ride, it really doesn’t matter.

For the penultimate event in our Gravel Series this year we are heading to Hampshire where we have four routes on offer, so there really is something for everyone to come and give Gravel a go!

All routes start from Matterley Bowl and head east straight out onto the South Downs way. The highest point of the long route passes through the Old Winchester Nature reserve where you’ll be treated to views across the AONB.

These routes boast fast sections through the open countryside mixed with woodland tracks and chalky flint lined descents. The trails can be rutted in places and the flint is certainly slippery when wet. But stay focused on these more challenging bits and you’ll enjoy the rest of the adventure no problem.

Of course you’ll be rewarded for all your off-roading efforts as you cross the finish line to receive a bespoke wooden finishers medal, beer from Freedom Brewery and other goodies from our partners at Jimmy’s Iced Coffee and OTE sports.

My first event and I really enjoyed it. Well organised. Directed to the start area, registration was easy. Within 10 minutes I was setting off with a small group of other people. Course was well marked. I was riding on my own for most of the way and could always spot a course marker at every junction. Course was challenging in parts, which was great, but most people could complete course if they took it at a steady pace. My one request would be distance markers at, say, every 10km, since I didn't know how far I'd gone or was left to go. And it turns out, I won my (short) course too, so happy days :)
