Organiser's Description
This middle distance triathlon fits the Island as though Mersea was created for such an event! The swim is off the beach and takes place at slack tide. The cycle takes competitors off The Island along scenic Essex country lanes and around Abberton Reservoir, before heading back to the transition to begin the final leg. The run for this event is effectively half a marathon in distance, which is exactly the circumference of The Island. This makes for stunning scenery and a mixed terrain no lap run which competitors both love and hate.
This is a flat triathlon but the terrain is a mixture of road, sand and seawall making it a unique but challenging course. Located on the central beach, this event makes for a great family day for supporters to watch and make the most of their visit to Mersea. There are plenty of facilities, cafe, toilets and parking all close by.

Great event, tough run, beer and oyster at finish. This is a great event with a little over 100 competitors. The organisers and marshals are very friendly and enthusiastic. The bike route takes you through some (surprisingly) rolling Essex countryside and the run is all the way round Mersea Island. This is not an easy run because it is almost entirely off road and it is difficult to get your stride as you go along beaches and through very grassy paths. A brilliant finish when you get a bottle of very good low alcohol beer and a delicious Mersea Island oyster. It is worth it for the oyster!
