Organiser's Description

The VoC Half 2021 will be the 9th running of this friendly, low key event, taking in the country lanes around Llandyrnog Village in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd. The course is gently undulating, rather than being particualrly hilly, and gives you great views of Moel Famau and the Clwydian Hills above you, as well as futher afield to the West and Snowdonia. It's a great way to round off your year of running, with hopefully a good run taking you in to the festive period and beyond with some real momentum!

The event shall be licensed with and run under UK Athletics rules, and the course is measured accurate.

Chris Pratt enjoyed the 2015 edition of the VOC Half, stating:

‘Thanks guys for today’s event. Loved every step. My 15th half of 2015 and a new PB to complete the year. Brilliant, friendly and cheery marshals and a well organised event in a lovely part of the country.’

Course Details

The course is wonderfully scenic, the undulating route taking you to the villages of Llangynhafal, Gellifor, Llanychan and Llanynys before finishing where you started, in Llandyrnog village. Despite the undulations, there are some very fast sections which explains the many PB’s that have been achieved on the route. All finishers will receive a well earned VOC Half Marathon medal upon finishing!

The Sports Pavilion field in Llandyrnog Village is both the start and finish point for the race, as well as being race HQ.

A small run with only around 80 runners, but a well-organised event and well-marshalled route, with plenty of water stations on the way. All the marshalls with fantastic, providing plenty of cheer, support and smiles along the way, this rubbed off onto the runners and made an overall good vibe. A good starting point, it was at an park with an athletics club, very nice children's park and outdoor gym, so it's a great waiting place for wife/kids, they can wait inside in the warmth/shelter inside the athletics club that was open for this event, or play in the kids' park / outside gym. Also, normal toilets (not portaloos) and changing rooms were available inside the athletics club, which is a really nice change. The route is on open roads not closed to traffic, but since the area is so remote there was hardly any vehicles on the road anyway, so no need to close them. It was all very safe. The only downside is the medal, it's really cheap/bad/amature, for the price paid you usually get a much better medal. For a longer distance like a half marathon, it would be good to have a nicer medal to show for it. I hope this changes in future years.
