Information about each category:
U12/9:
This is where a life time of bike racing often begins. A short, speedy MTB course with lots of woodland fun course and the riders do as many laps as they can in the time allowed, 15mins for U9’s and 25mins for U12’s. For riders born in 2008 or below*
Juvenile:
This is the competitors first trip out on to the full course, go for it and show ‘um how it’s done. For rider born in 2006 and 2007
Youth:
On the full course, loving life and getting faster. For riders born in 2004 & 2005
Junior:
A competitive battle for the next generation. If you have never raced before but fall in this age range you may want to consider either the Beginner/Fun race or the Open race. For riders born 2002 and 2003
Fun/Beginner:
This is a great place to start if you’ve never raced before, you’re struggling for confidence or you’re too old for Under 12’s but don’t feel brave enough for Juvenile racing. There is no series for these races and if you find yourself winning regularly do the right thing and enter a different category next time. For riders born in 2007 and before.
Open:
If you’ve found your feet in the Fun/Beginner race and fancy a little more challenge or you’re too old for Youth and don’t feel confident enough to race in Juniors. For riders born in 2003 or before
FAQs
How long is the course?
This is dependent upon the venue, but we aim for the average rider to be able to complete a lap in around 20 minutes. The Categories & Race Info page will give you some more info about the duration of each race.
Can I practice the course before the race?
Yes, and we encourage you to do so as it means you’re ready to take on all of the different features that each venue offers. The course is typically open for practice from 8am and will remain open all day except for between 12:30 – 13:45 to allow the Youth & Female riders to compete as safely as possible. While you are practising please remember that there will be racing on the course at the same time so be aware of what’s around you, DO NOT OVERTAKE ANY RIDERS WHO ARE RACING and do not affect the race in anyway.
How will the start of the race work?
Each race will be gridded before the start time shown on the Categories & Race Info page. Each category will be gridded separately within each race. The British Cycling Commissaire will start each category individually.
What happens if I’m lapped by the leaders?
We will not stop you if you are lapped, but there is a time limit on each batch of races, and you won’t be able to start a new lap after this limit has expired. More info is on the Categories & Race Info page.
Can I cancel my entry?
Yes, a full refund will be offered on a pre-entry up to 4 weeks before race day, between 2 and 4 weeks your refund will be 50% of the pre-entry value. If you need to cancel within 2 weeks of the race we cannot offer a refund but we are more than happy to transfer your entry to another round of this year’s series.
Can I bring my dog: Yes, along as it’s well behaved and on a lead.
