Windsor Half Marathon

Windsor, Berkshire

Windsor Great Park, Windsor, UK

Sun 30th September 2018

Organiser's Description

The UK's most picturesque half marathon! Windsor Great Park, the only Royal park managed by The Crown Estate, was once part of a vast Norman hunting forest which was enclosed in the late thirteenth century. The antiquity of the landscape is enhanced by the scattering of great ancient oaks for which the Great Park and its forest are renowned. The course itself is all on road and quite challenging, with plenty of hills spread around the route, but remember, what goes up must come down! All this coupled with beautiful scenery and traffic free roads makes for a wonderful experience.

Really nice course, totally traffic free and winding in and out of Windsor great park. Even though it’s 2 loops you really don’t notice owing to how the course is set out. One thing, it is really hilly and so if hills aren’t your bag…give it a go anyway

Beautiful setting. This is an afternoon race. Beautiful scenery. Starts on an incline. then round the back of the woods. all on pathways. This race will be delayed if the royals are riding on the course, not for long though. Pens are given as it is a large race. That last mile never comes... You can see the finish from mile 12, and it is all down hill! Parking on long, dusty, grass fields on site. Don't think that it's the end of September it will be cool, this is quite the opposite. Super crowds at the finish
Hi Esther, Thanks for the review, I would just like to point out that the event hasn’t been an afternoon race for more than 5 years now. It starts at 10.00 am Many thanks Peter

First half marathon. Even if you only run one half marathon, run the Windsor Half. The hills are testing, but very little congestion so you can do a good time if that’s what you are after. The only issue is they need more toilets at the start/finish area.

Wonderful Windsor half. I ran the Windsor half last year and various other marathons after, however, the Windsor half is by far my favourite... The beautiful landscape backed up by a well ran event makes it a must on any runners list. The event team are second to none and the hills are a challenge which makes for the ultimate half on the planet. Sign up you will love it.

Try Windsor Half Marathon, you won't be disappointed.... Bored of running flat, multiple looped courses with traffic. Try Windsor Half Marathon, you won’t be disappointed. Whether you are an elite athlete a club runner or a fun runner the Windsor Half Marathon (WHM) caters for everybody. I’ve had the privilege of competing at the WHM on 10 occasions since 2004. Only due to injury, foot and mouth disease, (not me, but risk to the deer) and an appearance at the Berlin Marathon, I have always made WHM my race of choice every autumn. But why? Well it’s has always been a very well organised event, which hasn’t changed much over the years. It’s a safe traffic free and scenic course. Crowds are always friendly and enthuastic as to are the fellow runners. The weather has been fairly consistent and conducive to good performances over the years. It may be hilly but this adds to the interest and challenge of the event. If you are fit and conditioned to hill running there is no reason why you can’t run a fast time at WHM. My fastest WHM ranks 5th of 25 career HM,s at 67:06. PB = 66:13. I look forward to returning once again this year for my 11th appearance. Last years event was the best I have contested in terms of quality and depth of the elite runners.

A well organise event. 2018 was my first time running in the Windsor Half Marathon and I can honestly say it was a pleasant experience. Great crowds, great volunteers helping around the route, start and finish is stunning and the bit in between is beautifully scenic. A little hilly in places. But that view when you turn down the long walk to the finish with Windsor Castle in your view I don’t think you can beat that. Liked the water bottles and targets for the bins. Loos didn't seem too overcrowded. Very well organised event and I'll do it again. Definitely.
