Organiser's Description
A fun Thanksgiving morning walk or run over 3.1 miles of winding and rolling paved roads with breathtaking scenery in Chatham, Massachusetts, to benefit the Lower Cape Outreach Council.
The Chatham Turkey Trot was started in 2005 by Mary Parsons and Linda Redding. It was inspired by the We Gather Together Run-Walk held in Sandwich each year on Thanksgiving day, and gave people on the lower cape a way to give back on Thanksgiving. The Lower Cape Outreach Council has always been the beneficiary of the proceeds from the Chatham Turkey Trot, which has gotten bigger each year. Mary and Linda were honored to receive the LCOC’s Hope Award in 2009 which honors people who have made a difference in the lives of the people of the lower Cape. The support from local businesses sponsoring the Chatham Turkey Trot, and donating raffle items has been outstanding each and every year.
Course info: The course is 3.1 miles. We will start out on Stage Harbor Road, take a right onto Cedar Street, left onto Battlefield Road, left on Champlain Road and then end up back onto Stage Harbor Road.
What to bring: a bag of non-perishable groceries/person that will be collected at the event, and money for our fantastic raffles and pie sale. Strollers are welcome, dress warmly, costumes are optional, and bring your Thanksgiving spirit!
What not to bring: please leave the family dog at home. As much as we have loved including dogs in our past events, the number of participants has increased so much that we feel that it is best for everyone’s safety and enjoyment to no longer allow dogs at the Chatham Turkey Trot. We hope you understand, as we will miss them too.
