Organiser's Description
ROOT (Running Out Of Time) takes place at the Lake Miramar City Park, with the main headquarters located on the west side of the boat launch located at the Lake Miramar Concessions Parking Lot.
Distances for the event will be a 5k, 24 hour (with the goal of running at least 100 miles, or as many as you can get in the time limit), and 12 hour event (with the goal of running at least 50 miles, or as many as you can get in the time limit).
The 5K start Line will be at Natalie Park and follow the lake path clockwise. The Finish Line is at the main headquarters for the race at the Lake Miramar Concessions Parking Lot. There are approximately 92ft (28m) of gain and 105ft (32m) of loss, but trust us, it feels pretty flat.
The 12 and 24 Hour Course will start at the Lake Miramar Concessions Parking Lot at 9:00AM on Saturday, December 26th. Runners will circumnavigate the lake in a clockwise direction. There are aid stations at the Start line and at Natalie Park, which is 1.72 miles (about 2.75km) into the loop.
Runners will have a choice to drop down to a trail path after leaving the Natalie Park aid station, completing a majority of the remaining loop (about 5k) on dirt trail instead of pavement. You may choose which path you take for each loop, you are not restricted to one loop for the entire race. The paved path loop is 8.02km (with 60m of elevation gain and 60m of loss) and the trail path loop is 8.01km (with 60m of elevation gain and 60m of loss).
Runners who complete 20 loops, which is 100 miles, in under 24 hours will receive a belt buckle. Runners who complete at least 10 laps, which is 50 miles, in under 24 hours will receive a 50 miler medal.
Runners will be categorized by the distance/time in which they sign up. Registering for the 24 hour distance and dropping out after 12 hours will still place you in the 24 hour category, no matter how many miles you’ve completed.
