Description
The Wakely Dam Ultra is a 55K ultra marathon through the Adirondack Park wilderness of New York State. It takes place along a remote section of the Northville Placid Trail between Piseco Lake and the Wakely Dam. The race is totally self supported, all runners will provide their own aid. It is a technical trail race with 3300 feet of total elevation gain. There are no cross roads, when you enter at the Wakely Dam there are only two ways out; emerge at the Piseco Airport or return from whence you came. Adding your name to the list of those who have conquered Wakely will take a fair amount of fitness, planning, toughness, and maybe even a little bit of luck.
What's included in registration fee?
The 2021 registration fee is $100.00. Every participant will receive: transportation to the start line on race morning, race shirt, 2 meals; pre-race pasta and post race party for our runners and their families, and more...
Where to stay
There is NO camping or overnight parking at The Piseco Airport!
Little Sand Point Campground is 3.5 miles from The Piseco Airport on Old Piseco Road. There are 75 sites and across the road from a fairly new bath house.
Point Comfort Campground is 5.3 miles from The Piseco Airport on Old Piseco Road.
Camping at the Wakely Dam
While at the dam and at the remote Moose River Plains sites, camping is only allowed at designated sites. You are permitted only 2 tents per site. There is NO camping in the large center grassy area on the west side of the dam. If you arrive late and there are no legal campsites, you cannot set up a tent, you use sleep in your car. NYS Rangers do patrol the area. Please be considerate of the other campers and your fellow runners.
There are 8 primitive sites at the dam along with outhouses, fire pits and picnic tables.
There are many primitive campsites just down the road from the dam rankin from a 10 minute drive to a 30 minute drive down the dirt road. These sites are tucked back off the road and very private and also have outhouses, fire pits, and a table. All of these sites are free but are first come first served.
The Irondequoit Inn is less than a mile from The Piseco Airport on Old Piseco Road. You can choose from rooms, cabins or campsites.
No overnight camping at airport
Just a reminder: there is NO overnight camping at the Piseco Airport! Your RD’s arrive at 3am and if you are parked there, we will assume you were there overnight and you will not run, you will get a DNS. The airport is very good to Wakely and only have one big demand is, NO OVERNIGHT PARKING! We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.

4:00pm-6:00 - Pre-race pasta (included with registration) meal and meet & greet your fellow runners.
5:30pm - Course updates and pertinent information with RD Doug

4:30am - Coffee with be provided. Please bring your own travel mug to enjoy during the bus ride. WDU staff will bring it (and any other misc items) to the finish line. PLEASE BE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON YOUR BAG!
4:45am - Bus arrives Piseco Airport
5:00am - Bus departs Piseco Airport (bus leaves promptly)
6:15am - Photo at dam
6:30am - RACE START
Finish Line - Please feel free to stay and enjoy the post-race meal (for all runners and family/guests) and share stories with fellow runners. The Wakely Crew will be waiting to cheer on each and every runner though the finish arch. Please note however, we will begin breaking down the finish line area at 5:00pm
