Site Map: Will be published soon. (May 19)Project DescriptionSaskatoon Diversity Network Inc. (as Saskatoon Pride) is a volunteer organization that provides safe, inclusive, accessible opportunities to observe and celebrate the diverse identities, experiences, and aspirations that are signs of a healthy, happy, prosperous community. Through our work, we build awareness that a healthy community is one where, in spite of differences, everyone feels visible, valued and loved. In previous years, Saskatoon Pride has successfully organized the Saskatoon Pride Parade for 24 years and developed it into the largest parade of any kind taking place in Saskatchewan. Other events such as the annual Pride in the Park, Pride Artisans’ Market and Community Services Fair, have been touchstones for participation and support by the entire community, including but not exclusive to the 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals in our city. For at least the last 4 years and likely many more, members of the running community have approached our organization suggesting that a running event that supports the values of Saskatoon Pride become part of the Pride Festival activities. Saskatoon Pride feels that an event that promotes health and wellness while at the same time building and strengthening support for diversity and inclusion will be a valuable addition to Saskatoon’s summer athletic opportunities and an event of note during the celebration of Pride Month in Saskatoon.Since the 2024 Rainbow Run will be the inaugural offering, we have chosen to offer the following running opportunities: a 10K, 5K, and Family/Youth Run (2.5K), and a novelty “High Heel Dash” where participants can call on the assistance of some of Saskatoon’s most colourful drag artists.
Registration is open to all, with particular emphasis on individuals and groups that may not have opportunities to feel comfortable participating in athletic events: young families, mothers with strollers, individuals who are non-binary, trans, 2 Spirit, queer seniors and individuals with physical or neurosensory challenges. The registration fees range from $25-$60 depending on the race/distance you register for. No one will be refused entry due to the registration fee being a cost barrier. Community sponsors will cover the cost of any subsidized registrations. Team entries will also be encouraged to sign up.This event and the related training and mentoring arrangements will call upon the experience and expertise of our Race Director, Jeffery Culbert (he/him)—the manager of the successful MaraFun Program. Our Race Director will enlist the assistance of one or more local running clubs and businesses to assist with pre- and post-event training and assessment. In addition, a grassroots race committee consisting of key individuals from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community (and others) is being formed to act in an advisory and promotional capacity. Rainbow Run Ambassadors from key community groups and demographics will be sought and encouraged to carry the message that health and wellness activities can be fun to their peers.
All participants will receive a Saskatoon Rainbow Run kit including an event t-shirt, colourful sponsor swag, items and information to assist in preparing for the run, and health promotion material.Registration will begin by February 1, 2025 using the Race Roster app. That and the Better Impact Volunteers app used by Saskatoon Pride will both feature online training and motivational resources, as well as ideas on ways to make the Saskatoon Rainbow Run a most colourful, fun, meaningful event. The Saskatoon Rainbow run will take place Sunday, June 15, 2025 beginning and ending in Victoria Park with the Meewasin Running Path along the southwest bank of the South Saskatchewan River.FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
