REGISTER NOW! Welcome to Fletcher's Challenge 2025, featuring a 17 km Trail Race, a Family 6 km Cookie Walk/Run, and our annual Easter Egg event. Everything will START and FINISH in Nanaimo’s Westwood Lake Park.
Funds raised from each year's Fletcher's Challenge event are donated back to the community through Runners of Compassion - Nanaimo Chapter. We support programs that help underprivileged youth access sports.

The Fletcher’s Challenge Trail Race in 2025 showcases a course approximately 17 km long. This year, we are returning to our roots, with the trail race starting and finishing at Westwood Lake Park. As always, you can expect some of Nanaimo's best running trails, many of which will be new to most, if not all, participants. The course will remain a mystery until you’re out there on the trail!
This is a timed race event guaranteed to be fun, but please note that it is a Trail Race and is not intended for walkers or hikers. Participants who walk or hike will be pulled from the course.
NOTICE TO ALL TRAIL RACERS.... All racers must carry waterTHERE WILL BE A WATER STATION AT THE TIME CUT-OFF CHECK POINTDue to safety concerns Ear Buds and/or Headphones are not permitted.
As in previous years, there will be a time cut-off at checkpoint “one” Don’t listen to the chatter about this before the race! We will tell you the Cut Off Time on race day. Time cut-offs are necessary to keep the race moving, ensure everyone’s safety, and make sure that our great group of volunteers are not out on the course any longer than necessary. Remember this is a race so time is of the essence. Generally, only a few don’t make the cut-off. Thank you for your understanding.

Gather the kids and join us for the ever-popular Cookie Walk! This event is a fun experience for all ages. Participants will complete a single lap around Westwood Lake and will enjoy a cookie station along the way for some extra motivation.Day-of Registration: 8:30 AM - 9:45 AM Event Start: 10:00 AM Easter Egg Hunt
If the excitement of running around the lake and enjoying cookies isn't enough to motivate your kids to participate, how about the enticing post-run Easter Egg Hunt?The Easter Egg Hunt takes place immediately following the awards presentation This event memorializes Mr. Gavin Fletcher who died at too young an age. Gavin was a well-known sports columnist, a member of ROC, and a husband and father. His family values were paramount and his love of good fun competition in sports was unequaled.
With this intention, we created The Fletcher's Challenge, held each year on Good Friday, open to both runners and walkers. It focuses on participation, having fun, and enjoying physical activity with your family.
