It’s that time of year once again! Join us on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025 for our annual Swim for the South Shore event in beautiful Victoria-by-the-Sea! This event is held by the South Shore Watershed Association (SSWA), a registered charity with a mandate to protect and enhance the environmental health of five watersheds on the south shore of Prince Edward Island: DeSable, Westmoreland, Tryon, Augustine Cove-Cape Traverse, and Seven Mile Bay. SSWA’s work relies on grants from funding agencies, community donations - and our annual Swim for the South Shore fundraiser. All proceeds from this event go directly to support SSWA’s restorative efforts within its five watershed systems to ensure their long term preservation, and for public eduction and enjoyment of the local environment.The 2025 Swim event will be held from the Victoria-by-the-Sea boat launch. Check-in for swimmers will begin at 9:30 am, and the official race will begin at 10:30 am.The Swim is open to swimmers of all abilities, from beginners to advanced. All swimmers have the option of completing either a 0.5 km or a 1.0 km swim. Please carefully select your preferred distance upon registering so swimmers can be categorized accordingly.The safety of all participants is our utmost priority. Coast Guard personnel will be present, as well as members of SSWA staff who are First-Aid certified. Each swimmer, regardless of ability, will be accompanied by a kayak-buddy to ensure everyone remains on the right path during the course, and to intervene should a swimmer want to retire from the race or in case of emergency. If you are interested in being a kayak-buddy, please follow the registration on the Race Roster website. If you can provide kayaks or single-person boats to use during the event, please contact [email protected] you would prefer to keep your feet dry, come out to cheer on friends and neighboursmin their race out to sea!
