And you may pick up race kits for other runners.
Children’s Race: The Children's race is will start approx. 10 minutes after we start the 50km and is open for children 4 to 11 years old. They use the same start/finish line as the longer races; basically the race starts on the track in front of the timekeeper booth, runs partway around the track and then out the east gate, does a loop around the park – no roads to cross – back in the same gate and continues around the track to the finish line.
Race start times are staggered to reduce congestion at the start, to bring finishing times closer together, and for safety reasons so that faster 5k and 10k runners don't have to run back against all of the other runners. Due to the course design- with turnarounds for the 5k and 10k - some two way traffic is inevitable and we urge all runners to keep to the right and be aware of oncoming runners.Start Times:Children’s race - 1 mile at 8:10 AM ish;50KM starts 8:00 amHalf marathon starts at 8:30 AM;10K starts at 8:45 AM;5K starts at 9:30 AM.5K and 10K walkers are welcome. The race begins and ends at the Canada Games Athletic Complex
Race Course: There are all new courses this year. We are so happy to announce that we now get to enjoy more than just the path system this year. The 5k will utilize some of the roads within the lovely local community and a bit of the University of Regina. On this course they will pass by an aid station 2 times. The 10k will use some of the same road way as the 5k but extended in the university and in the local community. The participants will also be able to utilize the same 2 aid stations as the 5km.The 21.1k half marathon will utilize the same community roads but even more extended into the university as well a great portion of Wascana multi-use path and the roads around the legislative building. The half marathoners will pass an aid station 4 times during their event. The 50km will be all on the track. For easy math that is 125 laps. We will have 1 aid station set up that participants can use at their need. If a person needs to leave the track for the bathroom there will be a designated exit and entrance to the track for this. YOU MUST USE ONLY THIS SPOT. This spot will also open to a small area that participants can get any addition nutrition or gear that they brought.
Inclusivity: The Flatlanders has always been an inclusive event for runners of all abilities. Walkers are welcome for the 5K and 10K. The course officially closes at 12:30 pm; please choose a distance that you can complete in that time frame. The 50km will have a 8 hour time limit and will be open till 4pm
Dogs and Strollers are not permitted. Unfortunately due to the congestion on the pathways and the two-way traffic it’s just not possible.
Earbuds etc. As with nearly all major races around the world – yes the Flatlanders is a major race - we have given up on trying to restrict runners from taking their music with them. But PLEASE listen for race directions from course marshals, respond to cheers from spectators, and be aware of your surroundings.
