Organiser's Description

TODAY IN CANADA, 12 LIVES WILL BE LOST TO SUICIDEEvery Step Matters. Every Step Brings Hope. Join the Walk for Suicide Awareness.
In Canada, suicide remains one of the leading causes of death. Each year, we lose approximately 4,500 people: friends, family members, colleagues, and community members. Behind every number is a life, a story, and a ripple effect of loss. For every life lost, many more struggle in silence. More than 200 people attempt suicide every day in Canada, and for every death, an estimated 7 to 10 loved ones are profoundly impacted. These numbers are not just statistics, they are a call to action. What We Know:Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults (ages 15–34)Men are three times more likely to die by suicideWomen experience higher rates of self-harm, a key risk factorSuicide disproportionately impacts First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities2SLGBTQI+ individuals report higher rates of suicidal thoughtsAt Distress Centres of Greater Toronto (DCGT), we see the urgency of this crisis every day. Our staff and volunteers are on the front lines: providing free, 24/7, multilingual support to individuals in distress, those at risk, and those grieving a loss.As the need continues to grow, so must our response.Since launching our first Walk in 2022, our community has come together with a shared purpose:To raise awareness about suicide and mental healthTo honour and remember those we have lostTo challenge stigma and open conversationsTo fund life-saving support servicesWalk With UsBe part of a movement that is changing lives, one step at a time.Together, we can create a future where no one feels alone in their darkest moments.Join us as we walk toward hope, healing, and a stronger, more connected community.
