Join the vibrant celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life and legacy at the 10th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Ride on Monday, January 20, 2025, in Detroit, Wayne. This exciting cycling event invites participants of all ages to embrace the spirit of community and remembrance on a scenic route of approximately 10 miles, showcasing key historical sites linked to Dr. King and local activists who played a pivotal role in the 1963 March to Freedom.
Start your day at the Charles Wright Museum of African American History, where onsite registration and check-in will be available from 9 to 10 a.m., along with complimentary coffee and hot chocolate from Sepia Coffee. The program kicks off at 10 a.m., followed by the ride departing around 10:20 a.m. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear from Detroit's historian Jamon Jordan, whose engaging insights will connect the past to present-day events. Families are encouraged to join in this free ride, but don't forgetβregistration and helmet use are required! Celebrate biking culture and the importance of social justice as you ride through the heart of Detroit.

Join Tour de Troit in a cycling celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. This is a free ride, but registration, and HELMET USE are required. Families are encouraged.

We are thrilled to share that the city of DETROIT'S HISTORIAN JAMON JORDAN will be speaking about Dr. King, his time in Detroit and the history of inequality in transportation and more. If you have not heard him speak you will be blown away by his ability to connect current events to past history in an incredibly entertaining and easy to comprehend way. This year we are pleased to announce our partnership with the CHARLES WRIGHT MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY! [https://www.thewright.org/] This allows riders to more seamlessly begin their day at the museum, partake in the free and ticketed activities at the museum throughout the entire day.
Before the ride, coffee & hot chocolate will be served from Sepia Coffee [https://www.sepiacoffeeproject.com/our-story]. The route is approximately 10 miles and will take in several historical sites relevant to King and other local activists that were integral to the 1963 March to Freedom and the impact of the "I Have a Dream" speech delivered at Cobo Arena afterwards.
_The mission of the Tour de Troit is to promote and encourage bicycling and bicycle safety through education, public events, collaboration with community and government organizations and support for non-motorized infrastructure. The Tour de Troit, the citys largest cycling event, raises awareness of biking as a mode of transportation and publicizes the growing greenways network in the City of Detroit and all of Southeastern Michigan.
