Organiser's Description
Aaron Redds family and friends established the Aaron Redd Foundation [https://www.aaronreddfoundation.org], a 501C3 charity, to honor Aaron and his mission to serve. We are hosting this Virtual Walk/Run to promote awareness of the Sickle Cell Trait (SCT) and to advance the Foundations focus on educating and bringing awareness to our youth, young adults and athletes.
SCT affects 1 to 3 million Americans and more than 100 million people worldwide. Individuals with SCT carry one defective gene and can typically live normal, active lives. Aaron was an athlete and was training with the US Coast Guard when his body shut down from this disease. With proper education and awareness, those with SCT can continue to live active lifestyles.
