THE 20TH ANNUAL BEACH BLAST 5K!
THE BEGINNING -
BACK IN 2004, AT ONE OF THE THE FIRST MEETINGS OF THE NEWLY FORMED UWHARRIE RUNNING CLUB, PETER ASCIUTTO, DEREK BLALOCK, MATT GREENE, LEE ALLEN AND JOANNE RINKER MET AT THE FIREHOUSE CAFE IN DOWNTOWN ALBEMARLE AND PUT TOGETHER OUR PLAN FOR THE 1ST EVER BEACH BLAST 5K. WE ASKED OURSELVES "WHAT MAKES A GREAT RACE?"
OUR ANSWERS - A GREAT COURSE, AWESOME GOODY BAG WITH STUFF IN THEM, COOL T-SHIRTS, GREAT POST RACE SNACKS, AND AWARDS. 20-YEARS LATER, THOSE GOALS ARE STILL THE SAME.
OUR GOAL IS TO PUT ON A FIRST-CLASS RACE, THAT IS CHALLENGING AND FUN.
WE ARE UPGRADING TO A SUPER SOFT PREMIUM SHIRT AND MEDAL THIS YEAR!
