This iconic relay race spans approximately 208 miles through the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina, welcoming teams of 4 to 12 runners to tackle the scenic course. Starting at Grayson Highlands State Park, the race features 36 transition areas, showcasing some of the most spectacular views in the region, including the famed Blue Ridge Parkway and the picturesque New River.
As the sun rises over the mountains, participants will experience the thrill of running through quaint towns like Jefferson, Boone, and Blowing Rock, all while enjoying the camaraderie of teammates and the beauty of the Appalachian landscape. After conquering the relay and covering an epic distance, runners will celebrate their achievements at Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, where food trucks and a vibrant atmosphere await. THE BLUE RIDGE RELAY (BRR), WHICH IS ONE OF THE LONGEST RUNNING RELAY RACES IN THE UNITED STATES, TAKES PLACE IN THE PICTURESQUE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS OF VIRGINIA AND NORTH CAROLINA. BRR CONSISTS OF MAXIMUM 12 PERSON (4 PERSON MINIMUM) TEAMS THAT ROTATE THROUGH 36 TRANSITION AREAS AS THEY COVER THE APPROXIMATE 208 MILE DISTANCE OF THE RACE.

BRR STARTS IN GRAYSON HIGHLANDS STATE PARK [https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/grayson-highlands], VA AT AN ELEVATION OF 4920, NEAR THE BASE OF MOUNT ROGERS (5729), THE HIGHEST PEAK IN VIRGINIA. THE HIGHLANDS DEFINING FEATURE ARE THE HIGH ELEVATION BALDS THAT ARE SPOTTED WITH STANDS OF NATIVE FRASER FIR, BOULDER FIELDS AND A HERD OF WILD PONIES. IN ADDITION, THE HIGHLANDS FEATURE THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL AND THE VIRGINIA HIGHLANDS HORSE TRAIL.
