This exciting event, returning by popular demand, invites athletes to compete solo or as part of teams—whether men's, women's, or mixed. The triathlon features a breathtaking 2-mile kayak leg that takes you from Totem Bight around Devil Island and back to Refuge Cove, showcasing the beauty of Ketchikan's State Parks. Following the kayak leg, participants will tackle an approximately 5k run from Refuge Cove to D-Loop and back down to Totem Bight, before concluding with an 8-mile bike ride to the finish line at Settler's Cove.
Participants can easily rent kayaks and bikes from Southeast Exposure, with kayak rentals available for just $20 and a kayak/bike combo for $30. With only 12 kayaks available for rent, be sure to reserve your equipment early by contacting Diane Gubatayao at 225-7851. The Ketchikan Running Club (KRC), Ketchikan Area State Parks Education Recreation, (KASPER) , Ketchikan Parks and Recreation and Alaska State Parks are once again co-sponsoring the return of the Calamity Triathlon which is back by popular demand. Participants can compete solo or as teams, either men's, women's or mixed teams.
The course celebrates Ketchikan's State Parks, with a 2 mile kayak leg from Totem Bight, around Devil Island and back to Refuge Cove. The approximately 5k run leg goes from Refuge Cove to D-Loop and back down to Totem Bight. The final leg is biking 8 miles from Totem Bight to the finish at Settler's Cove. Course maps available at Parks and Recreation or at registration.
