Get ready for an exhilarating day of adventure at the Carlsbad Adventure Race on Saturday, May 17, 2025, set against the stunning backdrop of Carlsbad Lagoon in San Diego. This exciting event invites participants to engage in a unique combination of paddling, hiking, and biking, with race distances spanning approximately 6-7 miles of paddling, 15-20 miles of trekking, and 20-30 miles of biking.
Starting at 9 AM, racers will navigate the course using only maps and compasses, ensuring an authentic adventure experience free from GPS reliance. Participants can expect to tackle a challenging course that includes kayaking, trekking, and biking, all while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the lagoon. After an action-packed day, join fellow racers for a well-deserved pizza feast and an awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of all participants. Don’t forget to register by May 15th at noon to secure your spot in this unforgettable adventure race!

The next San Diego Adventure Racing event returns to the iconic Carlsbad Lagoon (Agua Hedionda), the backyard of this event's course designer and event director, Michael Dubois. Starting in boats, you'll get paddling, hiking and biking in (mountain bikes or gravel bikes). As always, navigation will be with the maps provided at the start line, and no GPS allowed. Compasses encouraged.
The start line location will be at the non-motorized launch on the Northeast end (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Z1ABrV6wMQi11pUV7). Please register EACH person coming so that we have enough maps and water.
TIMELINE
Saturday, Carlsbad Lagoon:
* 8 prepare boats and bikes at start line, near 33.142673, -117.320986
* 8 maps handed out
* 9 start
* 7 course closes
* Afterwards: pizza and awards ceremony!
GEAR
* BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike), and a bike lock
* Kayak / surfski / infltable / foldable / SUP, whatever you got. If you want to rent, please reach out and we'll get you in touch with the course designer and event director.
* Food, electrolytes, and water - 0.5L per person per hour, minimum
* You will be back at the start location after kayaking, so you can have a race bin with resupplies
* Compass, of any type really - at least to help with coarse direction and not end up too disoriented.
