Kick off the New Year with enthusiasm by joining the ERC New Year's Day 5 Miler & 5K on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in beautiful Erie, Pennsylvania. This exciting event is the second race in the ERC Winter Series, which also includes the ERC Turkey Trot and the ERC St. Patrick's Day Distance Festival. Runners can choose between a challenging 5-mile race or a fun, timed 5K walk/run, making it a perfect opportunity for participants of all skill levels.
The race will take place entirely on the scenic roadways of Presque Isle State Park, with both the 5-mile race and the 5K starting and finishing at the Rotary Pavilion near the Waterworks area (Beach #7). Registration is available online until race day, but be sure to sign up before December 26, 2025, to ensure adequate refreshments for all attendees. Participants can also look forward to post-race refreshments and a chance to earn awards in various categories, including overall and age group winners in the 5-mile race. THIS IS THE SECOND (2ND) RACE IN OUR ERC WINTER SERIES. REMINDER: YOU MUST VOLUNTEER FOR OR FINISH ALL 3 RACES IN THE SERIES TO QUALIFY FOR THE WINTER SERIES PREMIUM.
The Winter Series consists of:
ERC Turkey Trot - Thursday November 27, 2025
ERC New Years Day - Thursday January 1, 2026
ERC St Patrick's Day Distance Festival - Saturday March 14, 2026
REGISTRATION: Online registration at run sign up will be open until the start of the race. Please sign up before you leave home since internet service can be spotty at the park. The packet pickup for pre-registered runners will begin at 8:45 a.m. in the Rotary Pavilion near the Waterworks area (Beach #7) at Presque Isle. The course starts and ends in front of the Rotary Pavilion. The race will be run entirely on the roadways of the park.
In addition to our normal New Year's Day 5 miler, we have a 5K fun walk/run. The 5K fun walk/run will be timed, but there will be no awards.
Please make sure to register by December 26, 2025, to assist us in having sufficient refreshments for all participants on race day.
_**_* Race premium is a long sleeve tri-blend shirt. You must order by December 9, 2025, to guarantee your size. ***
AWARDS: Overall awards in the 5-mile run to the top male and female, the first masters (age 40 & over) male and female, and to the top 3 male and female finishers in the following age groups: 19 & under, then in ten-year increments, (example 20-29, etc.) also 80 & over. Walkers are welcome.
NOTE: The race will take place as scheduled regardless of the weather, with one exception: the race may be postponed or cancelled altogether if Presque Isle State Park is closed by park authorities for any reason. Since this is always a possibility, please follow us on Facebook for any updates.
POST-RACE REFRESHMENTS: in the Rotary Pavilion following the race.
