The race kicks off at 9 AM and is open to participants of all ages, featuring a timed 5k with male and female divisions by age category.
Before the race, children aged 3-10 can join in on a fun Scavenger Hunt at 8 AM or team up with local YouTube sensation Insane Shayne for the 5k. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with interactive stations from 8-9 AM, providing a unique insight into the lives of children in the foster care system. Following the race, an awards ceremony will celebrate the winners and participants alike, with prizes for each age category. Organiser's Description
Fostering the Family is hosting our 5th Annual Fight for Families 5k Trail Run/Walk. Like last year, this race will be held at the beautiful Allison Creek Park and will bring awareness to the local foster and adoption crisis. While this race is a true 5k, it will also have some elements that offer an interactive insight into the life of a child traveling through the child welfare system. Join us as we experience the reality of foster care and come together as a community to bring about change!
Packet pick up will be held Friday night October 18, 2024 at Papa Doc's from 4-7 pm. There will be a silent auction and a time to connect with our team as well as other race participants. Packet pick up will also be from 7:45- 8:45 am on race day.
There will be interactive stations leading up to the start line that you will be able to visit from 8-9 am, as well as two water stations during the race. Our 5k race for all ages will begin at 9 am and be timed by both male and female divisions per age category.
For the kids this year we have two options:
Our children's Scavenger Hunt (ages 3-10) will be held at 8:00 am, or they can join Team InsaneShayne for the 5K. Insane Shayne is a local YouTube Content Creator and is most recently well known for his marshmallow catching on America's Got Talent. Come join his team to help raise money for the children of South Carolina. A meet and Greet with Shayne will be offered to those participating in the Scavenger Hunt or the 5k race.
Following the race, there will be an awards ceremony at 10:30 am with prizes for the race winners in each age category. Each runner will receive their time via text from Queen City Timing.
