FORGE IS A RACE BUILT AROUND A UNIQUE AND GROWING FORMAT KNOWN AS THE "BACKYARD ULTRA." UNLIKE TRADITIONAL RACES WHERE RUNNERS AIM FOR A SET DISTANCE OR TIME, BACKYARD ULTRAS FOLLOW A SIMPLE BUT DEMANDING STRUCTURE: RUNNERS COMPLETE A 4.167-MILE LOOP EVERY HOUR, ON THE HOUR. WHATEVER TIME REMAINS AFTER FINISHING A LAP BECOMES THEIR REST PERIOD BEFORE STARTING AGAIN AT THE TOP OF THE NEXT HOUR. THIS CONTINUES UNTIL THE EVENT REACHES ITS PREDETERMINED DURATIONIN FORGES CASE, 12 HOURS.
THE FORMAT IS GAINING POPULARITY WORLDWIDE BECAUSE IT REMOVES THE PRESSURE OF SPEED AND REPLACES IT WITH A TEST OF ENDURANCE, PACING, AND MENTAL TOUGHNESS. FAST RUNNERS AND STEADY RUNNERS LINE UP TOGETHER EVERY HOUR. EVERYONE STARTS AT THE SAME TIME, AND THE RACE UNFOLDS DIFFERENTLY FOR EACH PARTICIPANT. SOME WILL AIM FOR A PERSONAL-BEST DISTANCE, WHILE OTHERS WILL PUSH TO COMPLETE ALL 12 LAPS.
ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE ASPECTS OF THIS STYLE OF RACING IS THE COMMUNITY IT CREATES. THE TIME BETWEEN LAPSWHEN RUNNERS GATHER, RECOVER, AND PREPARE FOR THE NEXT STARTBECOMES A SHARED EXPERIENCE. CONVERSATIONS HAPPEN. ENCOURAGEMENT IS EXCHANGED. WHETHER YOURE COMPLETING YOUR FIRST BACKYARD-STYLE EVENT OR CHASING A NEW PERSONAL MILESTONE, YOURE NOT DOING IT ALONE.
AT ITS CORE, FORGE IS ABOUT STEPPING INTO A CHALLENGE AND DISCOVERING WHAT YOURE CAPABLE OF. THERES NO FINISH LINE WAITING FOR YOU AT A SET DISTANCEJUST ANOTHER LAP, ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO PUSH FORWARD. ITS AN EVENT DESIGNED TO BE HARD, BUT ALSO TO BE WELCOMING, REWARDING, AND DEEPLY MEMORABLE.

OPENS 30 NOVFORGE RELAY Same clock. Same course. Same challenge. Now bring your crew. FORGE RELAY takes the backyard-style format and turns it into a 3-person team challenge. For 12 hours, your team will tackle a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour. One runner from your team takes the course each hour. Finish the loop, get back to the FORGE Village, hand it off, and get ready to do it again. THE FORMAT Teams of 3 runners 12 hours 12 loops 4.167 miles per loop One runner completes each hourly loop A new loop starts every hour, on the hour Each loop must be completed within 60 minutes Teams decide their own runner rotation and strategy Complete all 12 loops and your team finishes 50 miles That means if you divide it evenly, each runner tackles 4 loops / 16.7 miles over the course of the day. But how you divide the work is up to your team. Run every third loop. Double up. Save your strongest runner for late in the day. You choose the strategy. The clock makes the rules. Between loops, your teammates are waiting back at the FORGE Villageresting, eating, cheering, recovering and getting ready for the next hour. FORGE RELAY isn't about one runner surviving 50 miles. It's about three people figuring out how to conquer 50 miles together. Three runners. Twelve hours. Fifty miles. One team. Welcome to FORGE RELAY.
