Event summary
In addition to the on-site races, a noncompetitive virtual option is available for those who prefer to enjoy the trails at their own pace, allowing you to complete the distance of your choice without the crowds. Each entry fee supports the Commonweal Conservancy, which has tirelessly worked to protect over 41 miles of trails and 10,000 acres of breathtaking land in the Galisteo Basin Preserve. Join us for a fantastic winter adventure while contributing to a great cause, and don't miss the celebratory social event after the February race!
Organiser's Description
There is also a noncompetitive virtual option if you still want to get out but not in the crowds. The virtual option does not require you to run/hike the course at the preserve, just complete the distance to earn you a finishers award.
One of the greatest benefits of participating in this event (other than keeping yourself fit) is that your entry fee is essentially a donation to Commonweal Conservancy who has protected and continues to steward the over 41 miles of trails and 10,000 acres of land in the Galisteo Basin Preserve that we all enjoy. That is right, 100% of the profits go to Commonweal Conservancy and the series has raised $50,946.97.

OPENS 03 AUGThis is for the DECEMBER 2026 - In-person race only! The first race of the series, this 3.5 mile loop provides a fast and flowy jaunt through the tundra of the high desert. This is a great trail to try out trail running for the first time. If you need more miles join the long course and hit it in reverse and get 7 miles. -
The Goat - In-Person JANUARY 16th, 2027 Race Only

OPENS 03 AUGTHIS IS FOR THE JANUARY 2027 - In-person race only! The Goat is the second race of the Winter Trails Series and boast the steepest climbs but the best views of the basin, Ortiz and Sandia Mountains. Enjoy the view and diversity as you traverse this runnable 4.25 mile loop or go long and hit in reverse for 8.5 miles. -
The Coyote - In-Person FEBRUARY 20th, 2027 Race Only
