One of the best parts of participating in the GBP Winter Trail Series is that your entry fee supports a great cause. All profits are donated to Commonweal Conservancy, helping to protect and maintain over 41 miles of trails and 10,000 acres of land in the Galisteo Basin Preserve. Organiser's Description
The GBP Trail Series will help keep you outdoors and active during the winter months while exposing you to some of the most beautiful (and runnable) trails in New Mexico. Races are held every third Saturday for the months of December through February with a post series social/celebration after the February race.
There is also a noncompetitive virtual option if you still want to get out but not in the crowds. The virtual option does not require you to run/hike the course at the preserve, just complete the distance to earn you a finishers award.
One of the greatest benefits of participating in this event (other than keeping yourself fit) is that your entry fee is essentially a donation to Commonweal Conservancy who has protected and continues to steward the over 41 miles of trails and 10,000 acres of land in the Galisteo Basin Preserve that we all enjoy. That is right, 100% of the profits go to Commonweal Conservancy and the series has raised $65,194.58 since its inception!

The Hare - In-Person DECEMBER 19th, 2026 Race Only

This is for the DECEMBER 2026 - In-person race only! The first race of the series, this 3.5 mile loop provides a fast and flowy jaunt through the tundra of the high desert. This is a great trail to try out trail running for the first time. If you need more miles join the long course and hit it in reverse and get 7 miles. -
The Goat - In-Person JANUARY 16th, 2027 Race Only

THIS IS FOR THE JANUARY 2027 - In-person race only! The Goat is the second race of the Winter Trails Series and boast the steepest climbs but the best views of the basin, Ortiz and Sandia Mountains. Enjoy the view and diversity as you traverse this runnable 4.25 mile loop or go long and hit in reverse for 8.5 miles. -
The Coyote - In-Person FEBRUARY 20th, 2027 Race Only

THIS IS FOR THE FEBRUARY 2027 - In-person race only! The Coyote is the fastest, flowiest and longest course of the series and offers a 6.6 mile or half marathon option and ending with a post series celebration. -
