This exciting event invites outdoor enthusiasts to explore the stunning trails of New Mexico every third Saturday through February 2025. Participants can choose from a variety of race distances while enjoying the breathtaking scenery of the Galisteo Basin Preserve. Whether you're a seasoned runner or looking to stay active in the winter months, this series offers both competitive and noncompetitive options, including a virtual race that allows you to complete the distance at your own pace.
Not only will you be keeping fit and enjoying the beauty of nature, but your entry fee directly benefits the Commonweal Conservancy, which has worked tirelessly to protect over 41 miles of trails and 10,000 acres of land. With a remarkable $40,646.97 raised in the past five years, your participation contributes to preserving this magnificent landscape for future generations. he GBP Trail Series will help keep you outdoors and active during the winter months while exposing you to some of the most beautiful (and runnable) trails in New Mexico. Races are held every third Saturday for the months of December through February with a post series social/celebration after the February race.
There is also a noncompetitive virtual option if you still want to get out but not in the crowds. The virtual option does not require you to run/hike the course at the preserve, just complete the distance to earn you a finishers award.
One of the greatest benefits of participating in this event (other than keeping yourself fit) is that your entry fee is essentially a donation to Commonweal Conservancy who has protected and continues to steward the over 41 miles of trails and 10,000 acres of land in the Galisteo Basin Preserve that we all enjoy. That is right, 100% of the profits go to Commonweal Conservancy and the series has raised $40,646.97 in the past 5 years.

The Hare - In-Person Individual Race Only

The first race of the series, this 3.5 mile loop provides a fast and flowy jaunt through the tundra of the high desert. This is a great trail to try out trail running for the first time. If you need more miles join the long course and hit it in reverse and get 7 miles. -
The Goat - In-Person Individual Race Only

The Goat is the second race of the Winter Trails Series and boast the steepest climbs but the best views of the basin, Ortiz and Sandia Mountains. Enjoy the view and diversity as you traverse this runnable 4.25 mile loop or go long and hit in reverse for 8.5 miles. -
The Coyote - In-Person Individual Race Only
