The Hyattsville Zombie Run, organized by the Hyattsville Elementary School PTA, is a thrilling event that took place on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at Driskell Park in Hyattsville, Prince George's. Participants had the opportunity to choose from three race distances: a 1K Family Fun Run, a 1 Mile Kids Run, and a USATF certified 5K. The event raised funds for neighborhood schools to support various initiatives such as purchasing art supplies, instruments, teacher appreciation efforts, and more. With a fun Halloween/Zombie theme, costumes were encouraged but not required, adding to the festive atmosphere. The race day schedule included various activities starting from 7:30 am until the awards ceremony at 10:30 am. Participants were also treated to food and drinks from local vendors, making it a truly enjoyable experience for all. 2024 EVENT DETAILS
The annual Hyattsville Zombie Run will be held in Driskell Park on October 5th! This fun, family-friendly event includes three races: a 1K Family Fun Run, a 1 Mile Kids Run, and a USATF certified 5K, all of which raise funds for our neighborhood schools! The Hyattsville Zombie Run is organized by the Hyattsville Elementary School PTA. Your donation will help purchase art supplies, instruments, teacher appreciation efforts, school beautification, classroom supplies, and more.
RACE DAY SCHEDULE
The Hyattsville Zombie Run will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, rain or shine. It takes place at Driskell Park at 3911 Hamilton Street, Hyattsville.
* 7:30 8:45 a.m. Race day registration and packet pick-up
* 8:45 a.m. 1K Family Fun Run
* 9:05 a.m. 1M Kids Challenge
* 9:30 a.m. 5K Zombie Run
* 10:30ish a.m. Awards ceremony (at the conclusion of the 5K)
REGISTRATION AND PACKET PICK-UP
Please register for the race(s) of your choice using the links above. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT 12:00PM ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4TH. Participants are encouraged to pick up their packets (race bib, goody bag, and race t-shirt) on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 4-8 PM AT THE DRISKELL PARK RECREATION BUILDING. Day-of registration and Packet pickup will also be available the day of the race, 7:30-8:45 AM at Driskell Park. Please note, T-SHIRTS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS. Individuals registering or picking up packets on the morning of October 5th may not receive a shirt or their desired size. Please plan accordingly.
PARKING
Parking is available at the Hyattsville Municipal lot across the street from the City Building (4310 Gallatin St, Hyattsville, MD 20781). The City of Hyattsville is providing a free shuttle bus from the parking lot to the racejust look for the City Bus at the entrance to the lot. Car-pooling with your runner or walker friends is a great option!
METRO
This race starting line is a 20 minute walk from the West Hyattsville metro on the Green Line. Leave the station and walk SOUTH on Hamilton St. and travel 1.1 miles. Turn Right into Driskell Park and follow the signs to the registration/packet pick-up tables.
SHIRTS
Our shirts come in adult sizes S, M, L, XL, and XXL and youth sizes S, M, and L. The shirts feature this years Hyattsville Zombie Run logo, and sponsors are printed on the back. The availability of your T-shirt and your preferred size is not guaranteed as we order shirts well before the race day. We also have merchandise available for sale in our online swag store: HTTPS://ZOMBIERUNSWAG.CREATOR-SPRING.COM/ [https://zombierunswag.creator-spring.com/] Proceeds from the sale of items in the swag store support the Hyattsville Elementary School PTA.
COSTUMES
Costumes are encouraged but not required! This is a 5K with a Halloween/Zombie theme to make it fun. There will be awards for costumes and some racers might dress as zombies or in other costumes but there will not be any zombies chasing the runners along the course. This is a fun, family event, and you are welcome to dress as you see fit. Register for the costume contest at the HES PTA tentyou must register to participate! Prizes will be awarded!
FOOD AND DRINKS
Local vendors Catalyst Hot Dogs will be selling food and Kona Ice will be selling cold treats. Maryland Meadworks will be on site selling Mead. Franklin's will be selling beer. Vendors will ask for proof of identification for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.
TIMING
Race timing for the Hyattsville Zombie Run is provided by Race Wire (my.racewire.com/athletes). Runners who provide their cell phone number or email during registration will receive their official time from Race Wire shortly after finishing the race. All race bibs will have timing devices already affixed to the back of the bib when you pick it up. If you register for multiple races, you will receive multiple bibs. Please be sure to wear the correct bib for the correct race!
PLEASE NOTE: Bending, crumpling, or folding the bib may affect the ability of the timing device to correctly record a runners time. Please be careful handling the bib to avoid damaging the timing device. Do not move through the finish arch with your bib on unless you are completing a race! This could impact how the sensors record your run.
RUNNERS RULES
* Dogs, skates, or bikes are not allowed on the race course.
* Strollers are permitted must start at the back of the pack, for the safety of other runners. You do not need to register the child in the stroller.
* Headphones or any listening devices are not permitted during any of the Hyattsville Zombie Run races.
* Please note that while we do not have a minimum age for individuals to run the 5K, we are not responsible for unaccompanied children on the course. Course marshals are there to keep runners safe and ensure that cars do not enter the course. While they also cheer on the runners, they are not responsible for stopping runners from leaving the course.
