IN STEP WITH SAM is a chance to gather as a community to remember Samantha Woll, z'l, who was murdered outside of her home in Detroit, MI in October 2023 at the age of 40yo. At the time of her death, Sam was serving as the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue. Sam was widely known for her leadership, warmth, and commitment to building community. This run enables us to honor the legacy of someone who meant so much to so many.
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? More than ever, the world needs the togetherness and kindness that Sam inspired in us all. Choose from a 5K, a 1-mile walk/run, a Kids Fun Run, or a sideline supporter and enjoy a day filled with food trucks, a bounce house, and a memorable Sam-inspired service project. Its all about coming togetherhowever you wish to participate.
NOT IN ANN ARBOR? Not a problem. Not only do we have a virtual option, but new this year we are holding meetups in cities across the United States and abroad so you can connect with community wherever you are.

This hilly route takes you on a 5K (3.14 mile) run to Sams Tree in the arboretum. Dedicated with love by Sams college friends, this tree sits right by the Huron River with a plaque that reads, In Honor of Samantha Sam Woll (1983-2023) who will always be remembered for her tireless activism and passion to make the world a better place. -
1 Mile Walk/Run
