R'i R'a Irish Pub 72 Commercial Street, Portland, Maine The race begins approximately 1/3 mile from R'i R'a on the Eastern Trail Path. Our scenic out-and-back course features both start and finish timing mats on the trail, ensuring accurate results provided by Bay State Race Services. four leaf clover OUR HISTORY WHERE IT ALL BEGAN The first official Irish Road Rover 5K took place in Portland, Maine, in 1997. But the spirit behind the Rover goes back much further! Years earlier, in Syracuse, New York, my brother Tommy and his friends began a St. Patrick's Day tradition of their own. Each year, they would gather early in the morning for a run around Schiller Park on the city's North Side. There were no big crowds, no fancy awards, and no grand production. Just a group of friends sharing a run, some laughs, and the joy of being together. That spirit of fun, friendship, and competition is what the Irish Road Rover has always been about. Thirty years later, we're proud to keep that tradition alive. So when you've crossed the finish line, stick around, raise a glass, and share a toast to running, to good health, and to good friends, both old and new! And to the guys who started it all...
