Organiser's Description
CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH WITH RUN THIS TOWN KALAMAZOO!
Monday, June 16 at Mayor's Riverfront Park. Packet pickup starts at 5pm. The run/walk begins at 6:10pm.
Please arrive early to make sure you ready to go when the event kicks off! This is a timed and fun 5K for everyone! Shirts are available for the first 75 registrants. Medals will be provided to the first 100 finishers. In addition, there will be a DJ, snacks, vendors, and more!
COMMUNITY. MOVEMENT. PERSONAL BEST. COLLABORATION. ENCOURAGEMENT. SUPPORT. INCLUSION. DIVERSITY.
These are the values that drive Run This Town-Kalamazoo (RTTKzoo) as we embark on our monumental 10th year anniversary celebration and our inaugural Juneteenth 5k Walk, Jog, Run event.
Founded in 2012 by Armond Harris, Shawn Blanchard, and Terrence Reeves, RTT began as a grassroots movement in downtown Detroit, aiming to address Michigan's alarming health disparities, with Detroit at the forefront. Recognizing that fitness alone isn't enough, our co-founders were inspired to create a community centered around a healthy lifestyle, fostering camaraderie and support. This ethos led to the establishment of RTT pillars: personal best, collaboration over competition, two up top, and personal best knee, all underpinned by the inclusive spirit of victory lane.
In 2014, Regina Miller, Eric Cunningham, and Carmen James joined forces with the co-founders to extend RTT's mission to Kalamazoo, thus birthing RTTKzoo. While rooted in the principles of the Detroit chapter, RTTKzoo acknowledges the unique cultural landscape of Kalamazoo, striving to unite diverse demographics in pursuit of health and happiness. From young professionals to families to youth, RTTKzoo provides a platform for connection, networking, and holistic well-being.
We invite you to join us in celebrating with our Juneteenth 5k event. This occasion not only marks RTTKzoo's resilience and impact but also honors the freedom and resilience of Black and Brown communities. With your participation, you'll play a pivotal role in amplifying our message of inclusivity and social justice while contributing to the health and vitality of our community.
