Organiser's Description
The 5k run is held in beautiful Bidwell Park during the Spring in order to both honor Kristina Chesterman's legacy and to raise funds for the Kristina Chesterman Memorial Clinic in Ozu Abam, Nigeria. As part of the Upon this Rock Medical Center, the Kristina Chesterman Memorial clinic, constructed in order to honor the desire Kristina had to provide medical care to residents of underserved regions in Africa, provides care to a town in Nigeria that was previously without access to medical care.
Kristina Chesterman was a nursing student at Chico State in 2013 when she was hit and killed by a drunk driver as she rode her bike home after studying at the library. In her memory, student nurses from Chico State have travelled to Nigeria on a annual basis ( before COVID restrictions) to provide much needed care to the residents of the area. In addition to the yearly clinics, the medical center is open 24/365 and is staffed by physicians and nurses. Proceeds from this run will go toward operational costs, ensuring residents do not lose the care they need during this critical time in history.
CHECK-IN WILL BE AT OAK GROVE A PICNIC AREA AT 8:30 AM! PLEASE WEAR PINK TO HONOR KRISTINA.
