During a designated block of the school day, students will aim to complete as many laps as possible, earning a neon bracelet for each and a custom event medal for their efforts! Friends, family, and the community are encouraged to support these young runners by sponsoring them for a flat rate or per lap, with all funds raised going to the Mr. Long foundation to provide essential supplies and support for students. Stone Spring Elementary and VA Momentum [https://www.vamomentum.com] are teaming up to bring a fun event called The Long Run to our school. This event is dedicated to school counselor, Mr. Dan Long, who unexpectedly passed away in 2023. Mr. Long was an avid runner and spent hours running and walking our SSES track with students in his 17 years as a school counselor. There will be a short run/walk course at school with an inflatable finish line arch, activities and music to keep the energy high all day long! During one block of our school day, students will complete as many laps as possible of the established route within the given block time.
*All kids receive a neon bracelet for every lap they complete and a custom event medal!*
Prior to the day of the event, participating kids have the opportunity to ask friends, neighbors, family, grandparents, etc. to sponsor them either with a flat dollar amount or an amount per lap. Funds raised will go toward the Mr. Long foundation in memory of Dan Long. The funds will be used to help provide students any supplies, clothing, food, or other items needed for school.
The Lap-a-Thon Program is made possible by the support of Riner Rentals, Virginia Wealth Advisors, and Tropical Smoothie Cafe!
