TEAL DIVA IS HOSTING OUR 7TH ANNUAL 5K RUN/WALK EVENT ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 IN SUMMERVILLE, SC.
TEAL DIVA FOCUSES ON THE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH OF THOSE AFFECTED BY A GYNECOLOGIC CANCER. OUR GOAL IS TO MEET OUR COMMUNITY WHERE THEY ARE BY CONNECTING WITH NEWLY DIAGNOSED WOMEN, SURVIVORS, AND THEIR SUPPORT NETWORK. OUR PROGRAMS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO ACTIVE TREATMENT SUPPORT, CELEBRATING SURVIVORSHIP, AND HONORING LEGACIES, ALL WHILE PROVIDING STRENGTH THROUGH CONNECTION. TEAL DIVA STRIVES TO TOUCH EVERY WOMAN DIAGNOSED WITH A GYNECOLOGIC CANCER. WE HONOR AND CELEBRATE THOSE WHO HAVE JOINED OR HAVE BEEN IMPACTED BY THIS UNIQUE SISTERHOOD. WE SAW A SOCIAL MEDIA POST ABOUT A PALM TREE THAT FELL OVER, REFUSED TO DIE, AND CURVED RIGHT BACK UP! WHETHER YOU ARE SUPPORTING SOMEONE CURRENTLY BATTLING, SOMEONE WHO HAS BATTLED, OR HONORING SOMEONE WHO HAS PASSED ON, AS HARD AS IT SOMETIMES CAN BE WE MUST ALWAYS GET BACK UP! WE MOVE FORWARD FOR HER!
WHAT'S THE STORY WITH OVARIAN AND OTHER GYNECOLOGIC CANCERS? WHY IS IT SO DIFFERENT?
SYMPTOMS OF OVARIAN CANCER OFTEN MIMIC WHAT WOMEN FACE ON A MONTHLY BASIS (BLOATING, TROUBLE WITH YOUR BLADDER, ABDOMINAL PAIN, EATING LESS AND FEELING FULL) MAKING IT HARD TO DETECT AND HAS GIVEN IT THE NICKNAME, SILENT KILLER. THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE AND UPSETTING THING ABOUT OVARIAN CANCER IS THAT THERE IS NOT A SCREENING TEST -- THAT MEANS THE PAPSMEAR TESTS FOR CERVICAL CANCER, MUCH LIKE THE MAMMOGRAM TESTS FOR BREAST CANCER, BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO TEST CURRENTLY THAT PRE-SCREENS FOR OVARIAN CANCER. UNTIL A SCREENING TEST IS IN PLACE FOR OVARIAN CANCER, IT IS UP TO ALL OF US TO KNOW THE SYMPTOMS AND ASK QUESTIONS. IF CAUGHT IN EARLY STAGES, OVARIAN CANCER IS 90% MORE TREATABLE IN MOST CASES.
