MILES FOR MOYO: A 5-DAY JOURNEY FOR FURRY FRIENDS

Join us from OCTOBER 16-20, 2024, and turn your miles into support for stray animals in Puerto Rico! Your participation in "Miles for Moyo" helps raise crucial funds to support Moyo Village's mission of rescuing and caring for animals in need.


HOW IT WORKS:

* Register between SEPTEMBER 25TH - OCTOBER 15TH and set your personal mileage goal. You'll automatically receive our fundraising toolkit when you register!
* Gather pledges from friends, family, co-workers, or anyone who wants to donate to a good cause.
* Complete your miles anytime, anywhere from October 16-20, 2024. You can walk, run, cycle, or swim to complete your miles.
* Log your daily miles through RunSignUp's tracking features or enter on race page under "Log Your Miles".
* The more miles you complete, the more funds you'll raise via your pledges, and the more prizes you will earn!
* Engage with our community and stay motivated through daily photo challenges.
* There are no set distance or fundraising requirements - just have fun! Plus, all participants will receive a virtual goodie bag!



REGISTRATION:

Fee: $35 per individual (waived if you raise $300 or more)
Registration Period: September 25-October 15, 2024

FUNDRAISING & PLEDGES:
Fundraising is optional but highly encouraged! Every dollar raised directly supports Moyo Village's animal rescue efforts in Puerto Rico. You can collect pledges for each mile you complete during the event or simply raise funds with a personal goal. Whether through individual donations or pledges, every contribution helps. The more you raise, the more prizes you can earn!



_Pledge Examples:_
Example One: A donor pledges $1 per mile, and you bike 10 miles per day (50 total miles), so the donor donates $50 at the end of the challenge.



Example Two: A donor pledges $5 per mile. On day 1, you walk 3 miles. On day 2, you run 1 mile. On day 3, you cycle 5 miles. On day 4, you walk 1 mile. On day 5, you run 1 mile. You have completed 11 miles in total, so the donor donates $55 at the end of the challenge.



FUNDRAISING PRIZES:
To reward your efforts, weve set up some exciting fundraising milestones:



Platinum ($500+ raised): Moyo Village sweatshirt, t-shirt, tote bag, water bottle, stickers, and registration fee waived
Gold ($300 raised): Moyo Village t-shirt, tote bag, water bottle, stickers, and registration fee waived
Silver ($150 raised): Moyo Village water bottle, tote bag, and stickers
Bronze ($75 raised): Moyo Village tote bag and stickers



STAY MOTIVATED WITH OUR DAILY THEMES & PHOTO CHALLENGES:

Day 1 (Monday): "Every Mile Matters: Your Starting Line" Share your starting point, a scenic view, your reason for participating, or your running/cycling gear laid out.
Day 2 (Tuesday): "Paws and Paths" Share photos of any animals you encounter on your route (your pet counts!) or scenic spots along your route.
Day 3 (Wednesday): "Midweek Motivation" Highlight what motivates you and keep the midweek momentum going.
Day 4 (Thursday): "Team Moyo Spirit" Show your team pride! Wear something that is blue to represent Moyo Village, or wear your Moyo Village gear if you already have some!
Day 5 (Friday): "Celebration Snapshot" Celebrate your accomplishment with a victory photo.


MILE CONVERSION:

* 1 mile walking/running/cycling = 1 mile
* 400m swimming = 1 mile



VIRTUAL RESULTS:

* Log your miles between October 16-20, 2024.
* Upload your results through RunSignUp.
* Results must be reported by 11:59 PM on October 20, 2024 to be included in the final tally.



WHY MOYO VILLAGE?
Moyo Village was born out of the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, a time when Puerto Rico faced a surge in stray animal populations. Stray dogs and cats roam the island in large numbers, with approximately 500,000 stray dogs alone. This crisis strains local rescues and shelters, who often lack the resources to provide necessary care.



Moyo Village partners with local rescues to address this issue in a sustainable way. By providing vital resources like food, medical supplies, and support for spay/neuter programs, Moyo Village ensures that animals receive the care they desperately need. Additionally, we help our partners facilitate animal transports to the U.S. mainland for adoption, creating long-term solutions for these animals.



The organization also engages volunteers in hands-on efforts, combining animal welfare with unique volunteer experiences, fostering a sense of community and compassion. Participation in events like Miles for Moyo not only helps raise funds but also spreads awareness about the stray animal crisis in Puerto Rico.
