Get ready for an unforgettable day of adventure and purpose at the sixth annual "Out of the Darkness & Into the Bighorns" event on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in the stunning Ten Sleep, Wyoming. This exhilarating occasion not only showcases the breathtaking beauty of the Bighorn Mountains and Ten Sleep Canyon but also supports vital suicide prevention efforts through Cloud Peak Counseling Center. Participants can look forward to an exciting lineup of races, including the inaugural Hyatville to Ten Sleep Ultramarathon, which promises a challenging yet scenic journey featuring a steep 1,600-foot elevation gain in the first nine miles. Runners will be immersed in Wyoming's unique landscapes, transitioning from desert terrains to the lush ecosystems of the Bighorn National Forest.

Additionally, the ever-popular Ten Sleep Canyon Half Marathon and 5K will return, allowing runners of all levels to enjoy the picturesque views along the Old Ten Sleep Highway. With a commitment to raising funds for mental health initiatives, this event is a fantastic opportunity to engage with the community while taking part in an inspiring and uplifting experience. JOIN US FOR SOME MOUNTAIN THERAPY IN THE BEAUTIFUL BIGHORN MOUNTAINS AND TEN SLEEP CANYON FOR OUR SIXTH ANNUAL OUT OF THE DARKNESS & INTO THE BIGHORNS EVENT!!

THIS COURSE WAS CANCELLED IN 2023 DUE TO LOW REGISTRATION, AND WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT, GETTING A LATE START WITH WEATHER VERIFYING THE MILEAGE AND VERT ON THIS COURSE.

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE OFFICIALLY HAVE ENOUGH REGISTRANTS TO GUARANTEE THAT THE ULTRA EVENT IS HAPPENING THIS YEAR!!

THIS ULTRA EPITOMIZES WYOMING SCENERY! HYATTVILLE IS UNMATCHED IN CHARM AND BEAUTY AS YOU START IN THE DESERT AT THE HYATTVILLE LOGGING ROAD AND RUN UP INTO THE RED FOOTHILLS AND INTO THE UNIQUE SANDSTONE AND LIMESTONE ROCK FORMATIONS OVERLOOKING THE EPIC BIG HORN BASIN. IT'S A VERY STEEP START, WITH 1600 FT IN ELEVATION GAIN IN THE FIRST 9 MILES.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE VIEW IN WYOMING, YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THE MOUNTAIN RANGES THAT ENCIRCLE THE BASIN AND ALL OF THE BADLANDS, WINDING RIVERS, FARMS AND RED HILLS BELOW. YOU WILL CONTINUE UP INTO THE BIGHORN NATIONAL FOREST AND GET A TASTE OF THE DIVERSITY OF OUR ECOSYSTEMS AS YOU RUN HIGHER INTO THE BIGHORN MOUNTAINS AND BACK DOWN THROUGH THE TEN SLEEP CANYON TO FINISH AT THE TEN SLEEP HATCHERY.



TEN SLEEP CANYON HALF MARATHON AND 5K ON JULY 6TH, 2024 -

THE FAN FAVORITE TEN SLEEP CANYON HALF MARATHON & 5K WILL RETURN FOR THE FOURTH YEAR, TAKING YOU UP AND BACK DOWN THE BEAUTIFUL OLD TEN SLEEP HIGHWAY FROM THE TEN SLEEP FISH HATCHERY. REGISTRATION WILL OPEN FEBRUARY 12TH

    This beautiful course starts near the Ten Sleep Fish Hatchery and Leigh Creek Campground. You cross the bridge over the rushing creek and start the descent up the windy Old Ten Sleep Highway. It's a hard packed dirt road but does get rockier as you get closer to the turnaround point at 6.6 miles. It's a steep climb up 2083 feet to the top and a quick and fun descent back down to the start. Aid Stations The first aid station is at 1.6 Miles - the 5k turnaround point. There is water only at this aid station. There is a porta-potty and aid station at mile 2.5. This aid station is has water, gatorade and gels. You might even score some gummy bears here. There are 2 porta-potties at mile 5, these are not race porta-potties but are maintained by the Big Horn Climbers, so we thank them for providing these to our recreators! We will have an aid station here with water and gatorade. At 6.6 miles, where you turn around, you will have an aid station with water, gatorade and gels before heading back down the canyon where our volunteers will continue to cheer you on and support you along the way.

    The 5k also starts near the Ten Sleep Hatchery and heads up the Old Ten Sleep Highway 1.6 miles and then races back down to the start. This race has been extremely competitive in the past.
  • Hyattville to Ten Sleep UltraMarathon

    This course starts at The Hyattville logging road and takes you up into the red desert foothills and the amazing rock formations to gaze over the expansive and awe-inspiring Big Horn Basin, where you can see all the way across to Yellowstone and Teton Parks before you head up into the Winter Elk Range and the among the wildflowers in the Big Horn National Forest. You will come to the top of the Big Horn Mountains over Battle Park and drop down into the southern drainage and run up the steep Forest Service Road 410 to what we call the turkey tracks. It's downhill from here. You will follow Battle Park Rd down 2 miles to Dry Ten Sleep aid station and from there follow the very rocky FS Road 413 down to a single track that will take you to where you will cross Highway 16. Cross to Old Ten Sleep Highway and run down the dirt road to finish at the Ten Sleep Hatchery at the bottom of Ten Sleep Canyon. This course is about 34.5 miles with 5440 feet of elevation gain and 4521 feet of elevation loss. Aid Stations Red Butte - Mile 6 - minimal aid, no crew - no cutoff - water, gatorade and gels The Watering Hole - Mile 9 - minimal aid, no crew - no cutoff - water, gatorade and gels, pb&j, gummy bears Winter Range - Mile 12 - Moderate aid, Crew - no cutoff, water, gatorade and gels, pb&j, gummy bears Old Trails - Mile 15 - Official Timing Checkpoint- 2:00 pm Cut-off Moderate aid, crew, porta-potty - Drop Bag Station, water, gatorade and gels, pb&j, bacon, gummy bears, soda No Name - Mile 19 - Moderate aid, crew, water, gatorade and gels, pb&j, gummy bears Dry Ten Sleep - Mile 25 - Major aid, Porta-potty, crew, medical check, drop bag station, 5:00 pm cutoff Highway - Mile 26.5 - Major aid, crew, no cutoff Ten Sleep Canyon - Mile 29 - minor aid, water, gatorade, gels The Grove - Mile 30.5 - minor aid, porta-potty, water, gatorade Old Highway - Mile 33 - minor aid, porta-potty, water, gatorade, gels Shuttles: We will be running shuttles every 40 minutes from Ten Sleep to Hyattville beginning when our first Ultra finisher comes in.
