The Purple Iron 5K, presented by the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is more than a raceit is a movement with purpose.
Founded in 1939, Sigma Alpha is South Floridas oldest chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. For more than eight decades, the chapter has remained committed to service, education, uplift, and strengthening the communities of South Florida. The Purple Iron 5K continues that proud legacy by bringing our community together around three important pillars:
SCHOLARSHIPS Empowering Students
Investing in brighter futures by supporting scholarship opportunities that help deserving students pursue their educational goals and reach their full potential.
AWARENESS Fighting Alzheimers
Raising awareness of Alzheimers disease and dementia, while promoting education, understanding, and support for individuals, families, and caregivers impacted by these conditions.
COMMUNITY Moving Forward Together
Bringing families, friends, organizations, businesses, and neighbors together to promote health, wellness, fellowship, and a stronger South Florida community.
The name Purple Iron represents strength, endurance, and perseverancequalities demonstrated by every runner and walker, by students working toward their dreams, and by families navigating the challenges of Alzheimers and dementia.
For generations, the men of Sigma Alpha have worked to make a difference through service. With the Purple Iron 5K, we invite the entire community to join us in carrying that tradition forward.
