Get ready for an exhilarating day of adventure at the Ramona Family Adventure Race on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, in the beautiful Ramona, San Diego! This exciting event is designed to be beginner-friendly, making it perfect for newcomers and families eager to experience the thrill of adventure racing. Participants will have the chance to explore the great outdoors through a combination of hiking and biking on two exciting courses: a geocache-style course for kids aged 10 and under, which lasts 1-2 hours, and a punch passport-style course for families and adults, taking 2-4 hours to complete.
Starting at Ramona Oaks Park, this fun-filled day kicks off with a navigation clinic before participants embark on their journey. Don't forget to bring your own bike and a compass to help with navigation! Enjoy delicious BBQ food as you race, and celebrate your achievements at the awards ceremony. With race distances ranging from 1-3 miles for the geocache course to 10-25 miles for the punch course, thereβs something for everyone. The next San Diego Adventure Racing event is a suuuuuper beginner-friendly Adventure Race for newbies and families that involves both hiking and biking (mountain bikes or gravel bikes). Navigation will be with the maps provided at the start line, but still no GPS allowed. Compasses encouraged. Two courses will be available:
* 10 and Under (with parental assist) - geocache style (1-2 hour)
* Family / Adults - punched passport style (2-4 hour)
The start line location will be at Ramona Oaks Park, in Ramona, CA. Please register EACH person coming so that we have enough maps and water.
TIMELINE
Saturday, Ramona Oaks Park:
* 8 drop off bikes at staffed Transition Area near corner of Ramona Oaks Rd and Cope Rd
* 8 navigation clinic
* 9 courses start
* sometime in the middle: BBQ food starts cooking
* 1 courses end, awards ceremony!
* Afterwards: group lunch (pay your own way) at TBD
GEAR
* BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike), and a bike lock if you think you'll go for a bonus checkpoint
* Food and water - 0.5L per person per hour, minimum, and snaaaacks, especially for the kiddos (snacks will also be available at Start/Finish)
* Compass, of any type really - at least to help with coarse direction and not end up too disoriented.

Remember that a majority of the miles are on bike, not on foot:
* Geocache style course: 1-3 miles
* Punch style course: 10-25 miles
All checkpoints are optional.
