Organiser's Description

Peace, Love, Trails welcomes you to Raptor Ridge!

Tour the gorgeous and challenging trails of the Westmoreland Sanctuary [https://westmorelandsanctuary.org/]

SEE IF YOU HAVE THE INTESTINAL FORTITUDE TO CONQUER RAPTOR RIDGE!

Westmoreland Sanctuary is a not-for-profit, independent nature center and wildlife preserve located in Westchester County, New York. Our land spans three towns: Bedford, Mount Kisco, and Armonk. Our preserve is 669 acres with 8.5 miles of hiking trails. Access to these trails, along with our Natural Science Museum, is free and open 365 days a year. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Sanctuary.

We also need to thank the Fox Lane Sports Booster Club [https://foxlanesportsboostersclub.com/] for all their help in allowing us to use the beautiful campus for our race headquarters and for the ever important parking!!!!! The Boosters help to keep the kiddos of the schools set up to be the best athletes, and a strong kid is a happy kid!!! A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Fox Lane Sports Booster Club.

We will also be collecting food for the Mt. Kisco Food Pantry [https://www.mountkiscofoodpantry.org/]. If you would like to personally donate food, please bring non-perishable items that are within the expiration date. Through our twice weekly in person and bi-weekly home delivery distributions, we serve an average of 630 households per week. We fed over 102,000 people in 2023 (of which 18% were children and 12% were seniors). Our dedicated team of volunteers unload food deliveries and stock shelves, pack produce, rescue food from local food donors, make home deliveries, and assist our guests at distributions.

This is not a nicely groomed carriage trail. But it's an amazing jaunt through the terrain. You can look around, but I wouldn't look much or you'll trip and fall. You may trip and fall anyway, but that's all part of the fun. Giveaway swag and finisher medals will be given out as well as prizes to the Overall Male/Female and the top male/female winner in the following age groups: 19 & under 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-59 60 & over PLEASE KEEP IN MIND! DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE SANCTUARY!!! We love seeing and caring for our wildlife friends and we cannot do that effectively if we allow dogs on to the preserve. Not because we don't like them, but for very real reasons. Dogs scare away the very animals we work to protect. The dogs predator smell will linger for hours, days, and even weeks afterwards driving away other animals, sometimes permanently. Our water is clean and potable (rated AA-S by the NYS Department of Conservation) and is used by over 100,000 residences in New York and Connecticut. Dog waste accounts for as much 30% of the bacteria found in reservoirs. It is important that our water remains clean for our wildlife and people like you.
