Hosted at OES in Southwest Portland, this annual gathering unites local faith organizations and community partners to combat hunger in our area. Since its inception in 2016, the SW Hope 5K has been a key part of the Southwest Hope Campaign, aiming to support the Neighborhood House Free Food Market, the largest of its kind west of the Willamette.
By participating in the SW Hope 5K, you're not just running for fun; you're making a real difference! Your registration and donations help convert every dollar raised into vital food for our neighbors in need—$1 can provide an incredible four pounds of food through the Oregon Food Bank. WE ARE BACK AGAIN AT OES IN SW PORTLAND, STARTING AT 9:45 WITH KIDS AND THE 5K TO FOLLOW AT 10:15!
Every spring, multiple Southwest Portland Faith Organizations and Community Partners join hands to meet the need of hunger specifically, by working to supply Neighborhood Houses (https://nhpdx.org/) Free Food Market, the largest west of the Willamette. This joint effort is known as the Southwest Hope Campaign. Since 2016, Missio Church has organized the SW Hope 5k as a culmination of the greater campaign.
What can $1 buy me at a grocery store? One, maybe two, canned goods at the most. For $1, Neighborhood House can buy 4 pounds of food directly from Oregon Food Bank. We quickly realized we could turn a simple canned food drive into a huge tool to empower Neighborhood House and reach hundreds more hungry neighbors.
This is where you come in. We invite you to run with us in our annual SW Hope 5K because each $1 we raise together far outweighs its worth in canned goods individually. If we run together, our neighbors here in SW Portland wont have to experience the insecurity of not knowing where their next meal is coming from.
